VIC EOI... Royal Australian Armoured Corps Tank Museum

    red32 You talkin' to me?

Talking to an ex-Army guy at work last night and the subject of the RAAC Tank Museum came up.
Thought to myself: "Self, this may well make a good day out for the Vic Zedders."

No dates as yet, but this info is from the RAAC Museum website:
Anyone interested in making the run to Puckapunyal (about an hours drive up the Hume from Melbourne - near Seymour)?

View the Museum and have some lunch.

Then twisty way home via Tooborac, Lancefield, Mt Macedon, Gisbourne, Bacchus Marsh and the Western Fwy to the Western Ring Road and thence our separate ways!

Just looking at 'Google Maps', the roads into the base look to be sealed so there shouldn't be any problems with access, but if we go ahead I'll give it a dry run to check.

If there's enough interest, I'll give them a call and arrange a day.
Nice drive, nice BBQ lunch, good look at 'big bang-bangs'! And then some spirited (but legal) driving!

    Respond away!

As always, it just depends on the date... ie, which end of month weekend we use.... Would it be a saturday or sunday day thing?

    Sounds good indeed.

    What he said.

Saturdays are much better than sundays for me usually.

Careful Doing "spirited" driving around there.

3 weeks ago i was pulled over and defected.

Very enticing roads i will give you that, nice long bends and some long sprints. Locals WILL report hooning cars/loud cars.. And the roads are 1 way in 1 way out, So its very easy for cops to setup and defect fancy looking cars, as they do

That aside, I might be interested but I'd spend a few hours at heathcote Raceway if i was going up there

Why not spend a few hours at heathcote doing a Test and tune day then goto the tank museum after?, $50 to race a car $15 to watch, Line ups are usually 2-5mins, and you get printouts

Sounds good to me Dougy - but not for end of July.
There is another twisty way to get there; the cruise I organised leaving from Greensborough several years ago ended up close to Seymour at a restaraunt after running through Flowerdale and other towns on the southern side of the Hume. Wouldn't be much of an extension to cross the Hume and get to Pucka ....

    'Tanks' for the warning!
Spirited but legal is what I said! Don't forget, we are going to have an NA leading this!

Previous personal experience is that if you obey the set speed limits, nothing nasty will happen. That doesn't mean that you have to drive like a 'Granny', but as long as you are not too exuberant, it's all sweet! (That from a local copper).

Dragging at Heathcote is a whole day involvement! Last time there CLICK, I had something like 15 runs... great value for money!

Going to Heathcote first would take out too much of the day at the Tank Museum... there are over 70 exhibits on display at 'Pucka', which, if we take it seriously, will take several hours to cover.

That said, I personally am very keen to put 'DREDZ' back on the strip at Heathcote, so that may well be another event to be organised (hint, hint).

    BigCol That's what she said...

Looks like a great idea for a cruise Dougy, but it is unlikely that we'll be able to attend this one unfortunately.

Sounds like a plan, I'll meet you guys at Pucka if I can roster around the set date :)...went to Pucka about a year ago when Brent was training there, from memory the roads were sealed

    Could be tempted

to make the run down to you lot, seeing as it's only at Seymour.
    About 2hours south of Albury.
Let me know the dates when you have them please Doug & I'll see if I'm FREE.:D

    Cheers

from the conditions i've seen around other bases around NSW i'm pretty sure defence would have all the roads around the base in decent condition.

i've seen some pretty damn nice cars getting around the bases, guys coming back from deployment with heaps of money and dont know what to do with it i guess.

but yeah, its a safe bet that the roads will be sealed and in good nick.
have fun guys, i'l lbe living at pucka towards the end of the year, may look into planning another one:D

Looks like there's enough interest for me to get my A into G and do something about this.

Suggested dates (probably not for a couple of months, too cold at the moment), meeting places, catering, and the actual route to be taken will be posted in due course.

Keza, if you can make the trip, that will be great.... all interstaters welcome, of course!

    Cheers,

Hi guys I will be in this I am away in September all month anytime ourside this would be good for me. The tank museum is well over an hours entertainment they have tanks from nearly every theatre of war ausie has been in. A lot of British carriers and more recent leopold tanks they may even have mi abrams lying around by now. These guys are very enthusiastic and if an aproach was made may go and extra step for a club that might be is conjecture but the got out an M1 recently for some motoring types (have seen piccys) The road is made and top class it runs alongside the tank tesing range with a high fence and for the most part unihabited the main concern is roos which have come down due to lack of water. Their is a deserted army base near the end of the road but not much to look at these days.It would be a good run;)

Hey guys, I was posted to Pucka for three years during my time in the army. I can say the tank museum is well worth a look, last time I was there they had some cold war tanks as well, a British Chieftain, and a Ruski T62 or T72, I forget which. Also take the time to check out the scool of Arty upon bridges barracks. Probably wont be allowed in, but cool to check out the front. Be careful of the local police though, they will probably think you are AJ's, and they really hate AJ's.
