Hey guys, just checking to see if there'd be any interest in plenum pull/bypass jobs.
Once the wreck has gone from my garage I'll have plenty of room.
Would include all new coolant lines/gasket with the under plenum bypass.
Was thinking of $600base add $50 for egr/aiv/prvr solonoid delete, add $50 for bastard hose at the back.
Also includes flushing the cooling system and filling with quality coolant.

this job would be $1200-1500 depending where you go e.g dontex

would be a 2 day turn around time
    would there be any interest?

I reckon that would be pretty popular, as long as you don't use bathroom sealant like somebody did with my $1700 plenum pull earlier this year

Well theres no need for sealant of any kind lol, thats what the oem gasket is for!
although i have heard of people using sealant on the coolant lines, not sure if it's overkill or needed. Didnt use it on my Z and it was fine.

I also wouldnt mind if the owner of the car wants to participate or watch at any stage of the job.

Wish u lived in darwin. I just paid $2300 for my plenum pull and it wasnt even bypassed. I replaced all the under plenum hoses.. But i also had my injector plugs cleaned and all new vacuum lines and fuel filter hoses and just the stuff on top..

    Could've flown me up :p
$2300 is a huge amount for a plenum pull!!
fuel filter is $30 from nissan takes 5 min to change, cleaning injector plugs is a $5 can of contact cleaner and 15 minutes.
Vacuum lines maybe $10 and probably 30 min to replace them all.
Would seem the mechanic took you for a ride :(

God people can get raped! I guess if you can't afford to have your car off the road then yeh you have to pay top $, I can't understand why people don't DIY most of the work on our cars, the tec section is my bible. Because at the end of the day I would rather make the mistake and have myself to blame than to pay someone else to stuff up my car and hear their excuses why they didn't do it.

I'll be interested for my next Z... is this one of those "leave me alone to work!" jobs or can we help? also interested in 100k service, replacing all radiator hoses and s2 PTU going in at the same time.

Nope as stated in the first post i'm more than happy for the owner to get involved/watch.
Having never done a 100k service/ptu i'd be reluctant to offer that service, however if someone was willing to be the ginue pig i could do it for 1/4 of the price 1st time round.
It is something i'd like to offer as well.

I encourage everything to DIY but it's not always possible as some people are not mechanically minded, don't have the time, would rather pay someone to do it, which is why i'd like to offer it at 1/3rd the price of a workshop.

Just out of intrest sake, are you also doing the rear 1/2 moon seals, cam cover seals, PVCs and hoses, injector cleans etc?

Or would also have to be added to the price?

If he did all that for $600 then that is one very generous person.

Do you need a hand Lovic? Put up a mini tech day and i can help out when i have the free time.

Also to the OP, its a good price for service and OEM parts.

I recall another feller in Melb doing this for $600 too. Cant think of his name though, havent seen him on here much these days. He did the bypass on my black zed when i bought it from the seller in Melb. Was an ok job, did what was basically needed, but he used gasket paper and that was a pita to remove when i had to redo it all.

Whats your version of a warranty/insurance? More so something to cover your ass should a disgruntled customer come back to you?

And i dont mean that in regards to your workmanship, but merely for the fact that if they go give it a thrash after you've done the service and stuff something up, than try to blame you and your workmanship. Best to note what your service warranty/insurance is prior.

    Good little business idea.

    Makes me think... hrm.

    Good luck.

That wont be included but it should definately be offered. I encourage my customers to do those items mentioned above as they just as much of a reason to do a plenum pull as the water bypass.

Just be aware that there are severe penalties (hundreds of thousands of dollars) for running an unlicensed mechanical repair service.... It may be worth your while to research this side of things before getting started.

In NSW licensing etc is administered by the department of fair trading, I imagine VIC would be similar.

I'm not saying don't do it. Just something to consider that I don't think many backyard operators (even those with good intentions who do a good job!) are aware of. I certainly wasn't until I had to go through a registration process etc for the mobile battery work.

Not to mention insurance, liabilty, warranty and everyone's favourite, tax. If you are keen to do it, go ahead, just make sure your neighbours don't mind and you don't piss anyone off.

hehe yeah, well i think i'd be lucky to do 1 every month or 2, how many could there be right?

As for a warranty well, theres not alot that can go wrong. If their engine dies 10 kays down the road after i do the pull, then i'd assume it would've died before it reached my house if it was 10km further than they had already travelled!!

I'd be inspecting and making notes with the owner of all the connectors to let them know whats already broken so they don't try and pin their broken connectors on me.

something i can look into, i have a spare motor i can practice it on so that wouldn't be an issue. And YES that would be an extra price, injector cleaning i'd have to outsource so it'd be whatever the place charges + my time for chasing it up/pickup/delivery.
The owner would have the option of picking them up from my place and doing them himself and then returning it.
