I'm co-presenting a GeekMyRide presentation at Linux.conf.au in Hobart at the end of January. Between now and then I need to install a bunch of Geek modifications in the zed. One of the major modifications will be installing an in-dash touch screen pc (a pulled apart asus eeepc). Anyone interested in helping out or joining in? I don't have a location yet, as my place is not suitable.
This week is seeing a lot of the "old-crowd" resurface. How are you m8, long time no hear. Why not just get a dedicated carPC? Would seem like a lot of work to get the EeePC working. I've seen it done, but a proper car PC is at least plug and play.
I'd be interested This sounds like an interesting project - I'd be keen to come along and watch/help. Depending on how expensive a project like this is, I'd be looking to do something similar.
Could be interesting. I've got all the basics of mine going (carputer). 7" Touch Screen, GPS, DVD etc. Still have a bit to do, (ECU, Dash mods) but loving it!
I'm good, and enjoying being back down in Melbourne. Where's the fun in that? The idea is to get a touch screen overlay for the eeepc and mount it flush in the center console where the stereo is now. The eeepc has almost everything we need in one package, and moding it is quite easy, especially as we will be discarding the casing and will have plenty of room in behind the screen.
