hey guys, brain is overworked and im fuming at my engine swap atm. so far i have the motor in and measured at the top the motor seams to be dead centre but my steering shaft wont join to the rack because it hits the turbo, also the rh dump pipe is hard up against the chassis rails. even though engine mounts are as far left as they can go im having troubles, can anyone help? engine mounts are solid polyurethane and the dumps are alloy toys. heres a picture if it helps
What turbo's? I had a *very slight* interferance with the same dumps, HKS 2510's (0.48 AR housings) and LS1 engine mounts between the dumps and the steering arm. Big hammer fixed it. No hassles with dumps touching the chassis rails though. Just checking, but have you got the dumps the right way around? Sposed to point towards the gearbox.
these are hks 2510s with .64 ar housing and the arm is hitting on the turbine housing and i tryed swapping sides with the dumps and they definately dont go the other way around
If you try fitting the uni joint to the steering rack so you get a better idea of what the steering shaft is aiming for the answer should come to you. The shaft doesn't run beside the turbo housing it actually goes under it but beside the down pipe - if that makes any form of sense. You WILL find the shaft touches the downpipe, you will need to sort that by giving the pipe a small adjustment with a ball hammer in the appropriate spot (they are designed for LHD cars). The passenger side downpipe will be damn close or actually hit the firewall if the engine is located correctly, again a conversation with the hammer will adjust the appropriate parts so it will fit without knocking etc.
your engine looks to be sitting hell far back ay. can you take a pic of your engine mounts. did you have your engine mount brackets off your block?
Gearbox mount lines up, I think it's more of I have to try and shift the engine to the passenger side even though it appears to be dead center, something's not right
"The shaft doesn't run beside the turbo housing it actually goes under it but beside the down pipe" try reading that out loud two or three times then go back under the car, lower the front end of the steering shaft DOWN then towards the centre of the car until it hits the dump pipe, then back up towards the steering rack uni joint. Trust me
