Hey guys I am still yet to find out if my engine has gone or not but ether way I want to buy anuther VG30DETT engine and rebuild it with what ever is needed so it will never brake

Simmo found this tech for me it pretty detailed
    http://www.twinturbo.net/nissan/300zx/tech/rebuild/rebuild.aspx

But has any one got a tech for the bottom end and one that describes the process of rebuilding the heads in more detail.

If I rebuilt it my self would $6000 be enough for a unbreakable engine say running 18PSI as a rough idea ??

Also will $6000 cover all that including some good turbos which I have no idea wich ones to chose  I want some thing basicly that will come on hard most the time with minimal lag and good top end power kinda like stock turboes but less lag and more power.

After readeing that tech article it seems possible for me as I have rebuilt small engines before ie old motorbike engines but is there anyone here who has sucesfully rebuilt a VG30DETT and can share some experinces ?

Also if get stuck what do I do post on here ? put it on a ute and drive it to the mech ??
    Thanks alot much appreciated
    mike:)

Not really possible for $6000 including turbo's even if u did all the work urself.
$6000 sounds about right just for the motor, budget another 3k isk for turbo's
    garret 2560's are good alrounders.

What about if I had evrything to do with the plenum replaced all hoses fuel/water fuel regulators all filters ect and a full 100K service all done about a year ago.

    thaks mike

Doing the job properly costs money .
Buy a rebuilld kit from Coz and the turbo's.
factor in the machining, i don't recon u would have much change from 10 k.

Well say If I were to get my stock turbos rebuilt with larger steel compressor wheels ect would that be good for about 400RWHP ?

What do I need to build an engine up with 400RWHP

Bottom end wise I am unsure but I am assuming my current twin entry dump and twin 2.5 in straight thru exhaust with my FMIC and EBC as well as my pod filter will help drasticly.

Obviously I would need a tune chiped ecu ? aftermarket comp ? also would I need 555cc injectors to suit extra boost from rebuilt stock tubos assuming you can get 400RWHP from modded stock ones.

    Thanks mike

    Hi-flowed turbo's suck .
get the 2560's and don't look back.
To tune i would be looking at Nistune setup if i was you :D .
    get some 555's
    easy 300RWK
how much have u budgeted for reco heads?

Would a stock bottom end take that ?? also I have heard that the big end bearings are the main thing that blow is this true ? if so is there a larger capacity or hi streingth bearing avalable to replace this with ??

as for reconditioning the heads I woukldn have a clue on how much that would gost let alone know that to get done to them. I am assuming new retainers lifter which i dont really know what lifters are lol and I am asumiing a more agressive cam ??

    Thanks for the help

Don't worry about porting the heads or any cams. it will only shift ur power band higher by about 400rpm.
u are building a motor for the street?
u can make 600hp easy on a stock bottom end(use the nissan bearings) ,even use the stock rods :)

    Yeah

Yeah , - Ive recently rebuilt my vg30dett. 6000$ seems plenty of cash if your goin to do the labour yourself. If you have any specific questions gimme a mail, ive rebuilt 2 vg30dett, and a z31. Both are massivly overpriced at workshops.

In that case do a stock rebuild and spend your cash on replacing the turbos to some 2560s and get all new gaskets, hoses, etc.

doing most of the work yourself can save you a lot.

Thanks alot for all the input guys ;)

So would it be ok to re use all of my new hoses and belts (timing belt) ??

Also would you guys say that that tech article is spot on and would anyone have any other links as to building a engine ??

    Thanks alot mike

I would like 400WRHP thats correct but what would I need to achive that ??

    My current engine mods are

    pod filter
Twin entry dump pipes with a twin 2.5 in straight through system
    Electronic boost controller
    Front mount intercooler

So what will I need to bump it up to 400RWHP ??

    Thanks mike

ecu and injectors should see you through!

Get a service manual and read it, suprisingly it's full of useful info on how to rebuild the engine

Reusing your service parts will save you all of $700. That's it.

As for 400hp, you'll need bigger turbo's. Get some GT28R's.

Have you actually found out what's wrong with your engine yet?

You can make over 500rwhp on stock bottom end and heads. the vg is a bloody good engine out-of-the-box. Hence why I said to go for a stock rebuild.

In saying that, it doesn't hurt getting some forgies in there to give you piece of mind.

I also wouldn't go 100% by that rebuild tech article as its pretty old. For example, most turbo kits these days come with new braided oil lines which gets rid of some stock pieces (RHS oil T-piece and LHS oil hardline). Also allows you to move your stock oil pressure sensor to your oil filter tree, as opposed to its original location, mounted to the LHS engine mount.
