guys, as my Zed issues have raisen early on in this discussion, I've decided to re-build my engine. As the engine is still has not been taken out so I'm not sure if the I need to re-build both top and bottom or either the one. Anyway, I assume I only need to re-build the top, gasket n etcs. what else I should do (re-build) or what else I should consider during the re-build process. What would u guys suggest me to do, I've decide to re-build the top, gasket, engine oil pump waster pump. Is there anything else I missed?
    Cheers

This thread from a few weeks ago has the info on parts you need for a head gasket replacement.

Instead of a "top end rebuild" you may just want new head gaskets and a heads service.

Once the heads are off, the block will also need to be checked for straightness. If it needs to be decked (top machined flat), you'd then be looking at a full rebuild.

Oil pump isn't involved in a top end rebuild.

From my Experiences, soon as you do a top end rebuild. the bottom end usually goes in 3-6 months

Never done any engine work on a VG30 though

    bottom end re-build

is gonna be much more expensive than top-end re-build right??

It could be with you go with forged internals etc.

The only thing I'd like to add to what your plans are mate are,

    1. Make sure you buy new head bolts. I stripped my head bolts trying to get my heads off. I used a sawed off allen key which was 10mm. It stripped the thread on the inner 3 bolts in between the cam shafts.

All I say is be very careful as I ended up needing to purchase another engine because I cannot get my heads off.

    2. Get all the right equipment to pull the engine out, you will save massive amounts of time by getting the engine out to take either the top end or bottom end out! Plus working in that tiny engine bay is frustrating and difficult.

    3. If I was you, I'd pull the engine out and do the whole lot. You'll run into problems down the track with some new parts and some old. Take a fresh start and buy a full rebuild gasket kit etc and do the whole lot.

    Best of Luck!

If you're just doing a stock rebuild and the engine doesn't need reboring then the extra parts (rings, bearings etc) will be about $1k. New pistons would cost another $1k+ Labour costs would be on top.

Ask your mechanic what the compression figures were on your good cylinders, that should help you decide.

    Full re-build gasket kit

is what I'm going to get as u guys say I should re-build the whole lot rather than just one bit. I would re-build the head, head gasket, turbo gasket (maybe if neccessary), position (if neccessary), valves and etcs. Am I still be able to buy new coil pack??

Last time when I pulled the engine out I've re-place all the hoses (radiator, HICAS lock and power steering) and new radiator, so I shouldn't have an trouble (overheating) after re-build engine.

If I wanna have bigger power with my Zed, getting bigger turbos is the only choice, isn't it?? if yes what kind of turbos would u guys recommended. This is what I'm running at the moment stock re-build highflow turbo and 2.5 inches turbo back with running 0.9 bar.

    Cheers
