Hey guys toppes up the engine oil and then a wierd ticking noise started at idle from the passenge side i think......is it something to do with topping up?? Did a search but need more info Thanks in advance
Probably a lifter. Did you change the viscosity of the oil from the last oil change? How much oil did you have to use to top it up?
I agree your hydraulic lifters are probably sticking go down to super cheap or equivalent and get some lifter fluid (i think its called lifter free or something along those lines) and chuck some of that in with your oil check oil level (low oil will make similar noise) run the car for a bit and see if the noise persists, probably will go away, if not consider your lifters have seized which will be a head off replace jobby.
as said earlier, if it has only started after adding oil then that is directly the problem. make sure you haven't topped it up too much firstly. you could consider dropping it and put a slightly thicker oil in, but try the lifter-free additive first. What grade oil are you using?
well i used the HPR 15 SAE 15W-60 semi synthetic oil..had to use about half a litre to top it up..i am not sure what oil was used before..whats the lifter free adhesive called?? and do i mix it with the engine oil??
i think it's actually called "lifter-free" but just ask the kid at Repco, he'll know what to get for you. - and it's an oil Additive, so you just "Add" it to your oil, straight in the oil cap but be careful not to overfill. you may have to drop some oil before hand. just keep an eye on your dipstick level.
grab the "nulon" branded lifter cleaner i have had success with that particular product on my zed and another car, good stuff.............you will need to buy another oil filter and replacement oil, because once youve added the product your only meant to have it in there very briefly (15-30 minutes of idling by memory)......oil will come out black as night regardless of how old it is, so thats normal.....then refill oil and replace filter, and your on your way
on the bottom of the oil sump, so the bulgy thing on the very bottom of the engine, there is a screw, i think its a 14mm from memory, undo that and it will all drain out
are you kidding me?!?! obviously youve never done a service on the car yourself, do you know how to remove the oil filter? do you own a socket set and oil filter wrench? if not then get someone around to show you how to do it, its not hard but if youve never done mechanical work its probly a good idea to have someone cluey there to show you what to and not to do.... not trying to be nasty mate but its pretty basic stuff....
Obviously Ross i am no good at these stuff just like i mentioned in thetech days when we met..i get Tom to do all my workk..lol..ya mate maybe i ll get some1 to show me..
send me a pm, ill help you do it and show you the basics.... buy your oil and filter (edit, and oil flush)and make sure youve got a working stock jack, ive got the rest of the gear we will need
