whats the best way to try and see the engine number ? or to get to it.. i tried taking my car for a id inspection, everything else went well and they couldnt get in there to see properly due to corrosion. whats the best way to clean it up if things are in the way

Not sure how to clean up the corrosion but I'm sure there are plenty of products available. The engine numbers are notoriously difficult to find and see. My mechanic gave up when I got my blue slip and just wrote down the number I gave him. I assume that you know where it is but just cant see it (which is usually the case). You need a light and a mirror on a stick (can buy these at auto parts retailers). Painful process......alternatively you can pull the engine :D.

Would you believe when I took my na over the pits the inspector also gave up and just said he would assume the engine was the right one. And that was without corrosion.

So yeah apparently it's bloody difficult to see ;)

Loosen the brake booster valve from the firewall to get better access.
Use a kero dipped cloth on the end of a stick to clean up the numbers.
Then point a camera down towards the numbers and keep taking pictures until you get some clear ones where you can read the number.
    Print them out for inspector
