engines are stamped with numbers as a means of identification by the factory.

helps with recalls, maybe a certain bracket all malfunctioned, can also be used to trace back where engines came from etc.

    Geezzzz Baz.......

No wonder CHILI wanted me to disclose my bonefides or whatever he said !!!

There's so many "experts" on here I feel humbled at times........actually make that all the time!

I must pull out my little bag and go back to trade school I think...............now where was it again....its been 22 years since I was last there. I think they knocked it down and built town houses actually!

Shame all those cars I worked on over the years and all those people that paid me must have been wasting their time....and money!!! :D :D :D

    That's a familiar looking picture.:p

The engine number is stamped on to the deck of the block behind the drivers side head, down where the arrow is pointing.

This is what you're looking for down there:

NOTHING is easy to get at in a Z32. Having 'night' and a torch, will just increase the 'level of difficulty'.:zlove::zlove:

    I just used a torch...

but mine was soooooo bright it suddenly became "daylight" :D :D :D

Seriously Ms Dreamer....you might find it easier to read if you use one of the Laser Pointer thingies to highlight the numbers. You need to know where they are but then, the cincentrated light from the pointer might make reading the numbers easier.:)

Just a little word of advice.

Was having a yak with another "older" forum member and we both agreed........there's a lot of good cars on here with a lot of people who maintain them well but sadly...........there's a lot of badly maintained and overdriver examples as well.

Bear in mind that when the 300ZX was released in 1990 it was a $70,000 car. This was at a time when the average wage was about $250 a week so you can see it was what you would call a "luxury" car at least. Granted........prices have dropped to the point where just about anyone, including someone thinking about a 1st car, can buy one but it is still an expensive car to run and needs to be looked after well.

Too many people buy these and trash the living daylights out of them and then, when the problems start to appear, sell them off to unsuspecting buyers. These buyers then end up with a car that gives them nothing but trouble which goes a long way towards explaining how come the 300ZX has a bad reputation.:( :( :(

You've done well to have someone that knows about these cars look over the one you want to buy. However, remember that you need to look after a 300ZX with much more time and expense than your average Hyundai, Mirage or Kia. Do so and it will give you years of pleasurable driving..much better than Sex says Baz and CHILI !!!:D :D ....though I am not so sure about that!

haha thanks for the advice i appreciate it :)
i actually service cars myself & have been working on them for the last 2 years ... i know im going to be spending money & time on this car but im more than happy to do it cos i love this car (unlike my previous shitheaps) ... im fortunate enough to get parts cheap & very rarely have to pay labour (as my best friend and i do it all ourselves)
i have spent the last 6 months looking for the best 300 i could find and theres no way im letting this one go to shit .... this weekend i have already planned new suspension, brakes, 3pt immobiliser & remote start (yes its wank factor i know haha)

ps i have never owned a kia, mirage or hyundai ... i know better than that
