Can someone tell me what angle i need the car on in order to get the engine and gearbox in properly? I've been trying all week to no avail.

Also, Im trying to drop it in with the turbo dumps attached, the drivers side is getting caught up on the steering column. Do you guys usually put the dumps on after? I assumed they would drop in easily as i took it out with them attached.

    Cheers

Need to let the GB hang as it goes into the bay, then jack the back end of the gb up to level it out a bit as you lower the engine.

I usually disconnect the steering rod at the knuckle and move it to the side then reconnect it again after.

Autos are harder. Might help to lower the crossmember a bit.

+1 on mikes comment, I have just had my tt and auto out and back in as a unit, I had to do exactly what he said else the sump wont clear x member and gets stuck on the steering shaft. also no fan fitted

Damn it! Was hoping to leave x member in. Icram- what was involved in dropping x member? Is it a long process?

Just a couple of big nuts. Leave all the arms etc attached, it will just drop a couple of inches.

Well done :D I think it says somewhere to redo the wheel alignment if you drop the X member I didn't bother, but keep it in the back of your mind and watch tyre wear.

parker Been around for a bit

    how I did it

Since you have to get the whole rig on quite an angle to get it in there. I taped up some rags and or cardboard to the top of the transmission tunnel. Then you can just lower the box and engine in there and run the box up against the tunnel. Do it gently and it will slide right in no probs. And you get the benefit of no scratches to your paintwork inside the bay :)

Cheers Parker, I had the car jacked as high as I could without removing the rear bumper, still no dice. Can't believe how easy it was once the x member is dropped. No I just gotta remember what nuts came off the engine mounts and I'm laughing.
