hey all, was looking at rebuilding my engine with a few upgrades. Nothing crazy but enough to handle a bigger set of turbos and some more power.

With all the parts that were to be purchased for the upgrade i realised that the engine from coz looked cheaper.

    The engine however was $3350
    then the shipping is $1100
then the shipping for the refund engine is either $1100, or not send it and aviod the $1500 refund.
Then if it gets charged import tax im looking at $6k before import tax.
I only wanted the first engine on the site, the one below and was wondering if anyone has imported an engine before... or how you guys have delt with this sort of problem? have you just rebuilt it urself and spent the money and time with the parts?
    any help would be great.

Stuff that! Send it to someone local, or at least in this country...

UAS, MRC or if you are keen up to Eric here in Brissy. I know that Eric will be A LOT cheaper than $6k for a stock rebuild.

rofl, show me where you can get an engine shipped all the way around the globe for 200 bucks

1100 seems pretty reasonable to me for such a massive trip

These were something I concidered before I was going to get one rebuild locally...

You should be able to get a stock rebuild done locally with a few extras and will come in similar price...

Yep Coz shipping is $1100usd... which does seem cheap for the size/weight...

The longblocks Coz has come from http://www.importpartspro.com/vgloblpa.html
They seem to be well known in the usa..

It wouldn't be worth sending your engine back incase it goes missing in transit or gets damaged and the core becomes useless....

As shipping is $1100, there probably will be import tax as well... No way to get around it really as they know what you have paid for postage :(

You could look at arranging the shipping yourself. Some companies do container sharing.

I have no idea about USA prices, but for example, a 20' container from the UK can be shipped to Aus for around 2000 pounds ($4000AU), so what come companies will do is basically sublet the space inside the container to whatever they can fit into the space and shipping weight.

Bit of mucking around and not easy unless you have contacts in the host country, but may be worth looking into.

There's also a partly rebuilt engine for sale in WA in the FS section here.

It's a great idea but the numbers don't quite work:

Using a 90c rate for AUD-USD you get

    Engine $3,722
    Duty 186 (rate from 1/1/10 is 5%)
    Freight 1,222
    Sub total 5,130
    GST 513
Core Charge 1,667 (don't bother trying to return an engine)
    Port charges 200 (guess)

    Grand Total $7,510

I think you could get a better build locally with a budget of $7.5 grand, probably to a higher spec.

and anyone else who was thinking of buying one of the engines from them,
how are their other postage prices... as injectors etc are quite good prices...
probably just email them i guess. thanks for all the help so far

Even engine from ViC or QLD to WA will cost $400. $1100 is reasonable + $750 for duty, inspection etc.

Port charge at least $300.00 + $200 Broker fees + $175.00 Quarantine inspection. So add $750 AUD approx when the engine arrives at your port.

and something to also note when buying an imported motor is to factor in pulling the thing down and having it rebuilt to check tolerances and correctly assembled.

I know of a motor from the states that came over put in a car and when turned over to get oil pressure up bent valves and damaged pistons/rocker gear.... not a bad way to stuff a 25k motor that could of been prevented by doing some simple checks.

you are forgetting the "rip off tax" on internal shipments though.

Same as with internal flights being more expensive than a week in Bali INC FLIGHTS.

When talking about INSIDE australia, always add on the rip off tax ;)
