I'm having some problems with my engine :(

Every now and again it will cut out. It seems to only happen when i've eased off the accelerator to roll down a hill. It's happened about 6 times in the past 2 weeks however getting more frequent.

The car has no trouble restarting again after it turns off.

I'm planning on having a closer look at it this weekend. Anyone has any ideas where I should start??

    Cheers Ash!!

Sounds like it could be an electrical problem-maybe a lose or dodgy plug, clean and retention all connections in the engine bay as they tend to be rather corroded... what series PTU have you got?

Don't roll down the hill .... accelerate! :D

Seriously: it's a classic AAC valve problem wherein insufficient air is entering the intake via the AAC during closed throttle. EF & EC section of FSM, page 89, has the diagnostics - also check AAC connector is clean.

Series 2 PTU relocated away from the front of the engine. Dad is thinking possibly a vacuum leak?? Any ideas?

    tell me this....
if your car is idling...what happens when you rest JUST the weight of your foot on the accelerator?

does she dip and feel like she's gonna stall?

try it and let me know

    Ditto AAC valve

I've had exactly the same problem in the last week or so. I found myself
stranded in the middle of an intersection at one point.

Lots of city driving in traffic at low speeds could be contributing to the AAC
    valve "clagging" up.

The cure for the time being on mine was a long drive last saturday night,
where I had the car at highway speeds ....it seem's to have improved the idle
bringing it back to about 700rpm

I'll still be giving the valve assy a clean at some point in the near future,
    it's probably due for one.

    Cheers,

    Andy

Could be fuel related. Friend of mine had an issue where the car would cut out randomly. After a cool down period it would start again. Bypassed the FPU resolved the issue.

    SAME SAME!!

I just bought a TT zx the other day and having the same problem, When I just lightly touch the pedal it dumps and wants to stall, When I push on the throttle cable i can hear a click in a small part near the firewall on drivers side. What does the AAC look like?? and where is it???

Ugame - when I slightly touch the accelerator the revs drop and it feels like its gonna stall but then they come back up again

Was just talking to dad - its quite possible we may pop over to R33k's on Saturday, would be good to get some ppl to look at it

    Thanks for everyone's help!!! :)

The AAC is part of the IACV idle

unit. It looks like this and is situated on rear of engine on passenger side.

The zed has two idle controls (1 x base idle screw & 1 x AAC valve).

Trouble is, if you just adjust the base idle screw, the AAC will compensate for the change and you won't know how much to adjust the screw. You really need to have datascan/conzult computer programs that hook up to the ECU. This makes the job easy.

I can do this for you no charge. Bout a ten minute job.

It has a few problems starting to if its been sitting for a while (more 2 hours). Doesn't fire straight away. I don't know if this is related

Hmmm service sounds like a good idea. Thanks Geoff!

mine never stalled, but when cold if i touched the accell gently it'd dip before picking up, i did a plenum pull and took the iacv off the plenum so i could powder coat it..

i didnt even clean it.. or dissemble it.. i just put a new gasket and then put it back on and it's fixed lol, no more idle dippage.
