    Hey yall

i was gonna post on some music forums, but i since some d00ds play the guitar around here, i thought that i might tap into ur wealth of knowledge :)

Im borrowing my friends elec guitar (Ibanez GRX40 with a 200Watt Peavy amp) - and i love it! Anyhow, i know chickenbum setup his guitar/comp in such a way as to be able to record his music onto the comp. Now, my POS comp has a built on sound card. . . with no output or input for the big jacks (are they the 45mm ones?) - but im will pay up to 280bux for a soundcard that can do this sorta thing. I have SoundForge 6 + some other music progs (CoolEdit 2000/Pro and hammerhead), so what else am i gonna need to be able to do what Jim did? Btw, Jim ur beat was awesome :D

Now i gotta another question. The pick (that lil loveheart shaped thing, is that what they call it btw?) makes a sorta ticking noise when i go to pluck a string. Now, its obviously from the pick stricking the string, but what can i change (in terms of playing style, type of pick, whatever) to make it go away - coz it sounds ugly.

And yet another question, in the song by the Scorpions "You and I", the guitarist makes a rather c00l sound with the guitar where he sorta cuts off the sound of a note. Time marker is 00:18 (just before the guy starts singing), how does he do it?

Anyway, thanx for ur patience :D cheers yall

okie dokie :) lets do this

For starters :)My computer is set up in such a way that allows me to do direct to desk recording. My guitar goes into an Effects rack with the normal guitar leads, all the effects rack does is boost my level going to the computer, it also gives me RCA outputs.I take RCA stereo out and that goes into my ASIO 2.0 compliant soundcard. My soundcard was worth about $450 Au$ and gives me 8 in and 8 out channells. It also gives me as low as 2.3milliseconds latency for auto production. Now the dirstortion sounds you heard me play were entirely generated by the computer, more correctly a VST instrument knows as Amplitube. Amplitupe is a guitar/amp modelling software package that emulates traditional guitar sounds.Amplitube is only an effect tho, you need a VST host to run in the background, I use Cubase VST for this and sometimes use Cakewalk Sonar XL 2.1, I used Sonar to generate my Drum backing track :)The guitar Pick or Plectrum is an important tool, you should be gentle with it and let it play the string softly, try to imagine it as a feather and you dont need to hit the string hard, you should pick at 90degrees to the string, if you pick at any other angle you can scrape the string (cool in some ways) but its prolly not the effect you are after :)
here are some links for you to look into Cakewalk Sonar - http://www.cakewalk.com/

and incase anyone is wondering what ive been up to lately.... i just bought this :D[image]http://www.bcrich.com/2003/bodyart/APRIL.jpg[/image]
