hey i bought some drift gauges and put them in a long time ago, they've had some problems since i bought them and only now have decided to fix them

for some stupid reason i threw out the code showing what wire is for what....
    ive come to the conclusion,

    black- ground
    red- positive
    purple - dimmer
green - sender, such as oil pressure or volts...

(oil pressure and volts gauges are what i have)

tell me if im wrong and have purple and green around the wrong way
another question is, oil pressure sender unit send in omes? if so will hooking another oil pressure gauge up split the omes and give me a false reading??

yeah thats correct but my drift gauges have a white wire for the dimmer instead of purple.

    Gee, where do we start?

The sender unit of an electical oil pressure gauge, fuel gauge, boost gauge, temp gauge, etc etc is a variable resistor (measured in OHMS). Some thermo-mechanical or straight mechanical means (a float, a lever, a thermistor) reacts to the temperature, pressure, fuel level or whatever and the changing resistance of the sender unit modifies the CURRENT running down the wire to the gauge, which is essentially an Ammeter.

So if you connect say 10 Oil Pressure gauges to your car (assuming that were possible), all of them would show the same reading, but the control wire would be carrying 10 times the current it was designed for (and something might fail). However, they would all show the same reading only if they were the same brand of gauge, i.e. calibrated to the current range from a particular sender unit.

The sender units all vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, so if you parallel connected your Drift (brand name Lloyd :)) gauge and the stock oil gauge, it would be a real coincidence if they gave the same reading, because they have been calibrated to different makes of sender unit.

    Hope this helps.

Lloyd .... Drift Gauges ..... they are those instruments that measure how far you "oldies" tilt to the left, right, forward or back in the few hours before your "nanna nap" .... e.g. "drifting off" ....

I am told that an audible buzzer jolts you back to reality before you fall off your chair, commode or whatever ...... eekkkk ..!!!

    drift gauges just gauges.

drift is a brand.. like autometer/defi/etc.

Well then, the proper way to post this offering would be "Drift gauges"(See? there IS a reason for Spelling & Grammar).

    Thanks for the clarification.:zlove:
