hey guys im thinking of getting rid of the water pump and putting a Davies Craig electric water pump in the botton radiator hose with an in cabin controller. Just want to know if anyone has done this and if there have any picies:)

There was a group buy run on these a year or two back. Might be worth digging that thread up and having a read through it as there was a heap of discussion and info in it.

I made up a water pump block off plate that i'm going to sell
it has 2 pipes so that you can get your EWP to be pumping water in the same location that the stock WP is pumping

I wouldn't do an EWP if i was putting it in the bottom rad hose
it changes the flow paths of the water IMHO
take a look at the water cooling circuit in the service manual

And here are 2 pics showing the cooling system, the first shows the way that some ppls are doing it, the second the way that i did it

    hope that helps

this is why its wrong in my opinion

there is no reason for water to flow through the turbo's, because the pressure entering the turbo's is the same as the water pressure exiting them - which means zero pressure differential, which means zero flow rate

    I WANT!

you give me that set up! you giveeeeeeeeeeeeeee lol. i cant send you pm's how can i obtain one of these so i can put the ewp in same place as the existing one is

I agree with the bottom radiator hose water flow issue. Plus I found space or lack thereof to be a problem also.

Your setup looks like a much better idea. Theoretically you could then mount the pump anywhere in the front of the car as long as it's not uphill from outlet on the front of the block.

I had binned my EWP ideas but you've got me thinking again.

well the location that I had was a bit of an issue also, not much space there to physically locate the EWP - i had it being held into position with cable ties cos i couldn't be bothered or get around to making a metal bracket to hold it

i've gone back to the stock water pump cos i don't want to overload my alternator too much, i got an amp+subs and i'm gonna be running 2 16" thermofans etc

i used to keep the ignition on after i've been on a heavy run to keep cooling the engine down, the ewp and thermofan would keep running

i'll be selling the ewp also

well you can make one, get one made for u, or buy my one
i cbf selling it rite now, but in a fortnite or so i will
i'm too bz trying to paint my car at the moment

from memory, a problem that i had with the concept of the in-cabin controller, was that it doesn't pump the water till it gets to a certain temp

but its measuring that temp downstream of the thermostat
which mite not be open till the water at the thermostat has reached 65' or so

but if the water at the thermostat is 65', and the water isn't flowing, then how hot is the water in your heads? like boiling kinda hot? i dunno, i think you need to be sensing the water temp somewhere else, like on one of the water pipes at the back of the heads/block area

I'd rather have the water pump on the whole time. I've got a EWP I'm sticking on the V8 and plan to run it like a normal one.

    What for ?

The stock cooling system is quite sufficient provided everything is kept up to scratch.

Electric water pumps are for classic cars where the cooling system was not designed as well as modern cars.

Unlikely that I'll be running air con so there will be no way of tensioning the drive belt. Already have to modify a lot of the coolant system, so it's no hassle.

Ive fitted a few in the past to E-types etc. I find the best set up is to run it all the time and use a thermostat as usual. the electronic contoller is a P.O.S

make sure your wiring is top notch, solder all connections and use a ciruit breaker rather than a fuse. If the pump stops your motor is in trouble

Yeah, I could have used a bit of extra flow in the MK2. There were a few times when stuck in traffic the temp gauge just kept rising and rising. An extra fan would have been good too.

Guess the old Jags weren't designed for Oz temperatures

Another Jag Man!! I have fitteed 16 inch spal fans to the front and the electric water pump in addtion to the mechanical pump on Mk2's. As you say, they werent built for this climate

I bet they have fantastic heaters though!

Saw a mint V12 E-Type coupe yesterday near AMEC

Not really. Pretty pathetic and fan spins rather slowly.

Lots of heat from the engine and gearbox though. Enough for Sydney climate
