I have had a complete blank and I cant think of the word to call them :|
The little joy stick things that control your electric seats :p lol.

    Anyway!
    Long time no talk.

I am making some molds of them and I may be making them out of a polished steel type material. They will be easily stronger than the stock ones, and its just they are so hard to find, I thought I may as well make some!

Before I do however, Would people be interested in them?
When/if I get around to making them, I doubt they will cost me much to make extras, so yea... interested?

I was sorting out how to do this and getting soem idea floating and then I looked through the Z and found a few things that would look nice re made.

I'm still trying to find the best way to do this as the shape of these things is a bit tricky..

it wont mold easily :p but I'll see what my skills are like.

I'm sure you will get plenty of interest due to many people missing theirs when bought/imported. Plus would look nice and shiny. :D But particularly being in QLD, wouldn't they be likely to get annoyingly hot during summer?

Ok so it seems the best way to do this is with hardened plastic :|

I will still test out a few metal ones, but maybe giving them a metal shiny finish might be a better option..

    Trail and error it seems.

    EDIT:
Also, I've never done this before.... So I'm trying to learn and figure out the best way to do this.

I'll post results regardless :p But lets hope I'm ok at it and can make some sweet looking trims for the Z's

    Ok...
    So...
Before I get into this, there are a lot of images and its a bit of a story.
I hope my spelling is ok, my grammar is readable and the context and wording is suitable for all you haters of the rhy_boy1.
If you don't wish to read the story, scroll a bit up from the bottom and you'll see my general idea of the switch.
This is mainly to show and tell + get some more ideas.

I dono if any of you guys/girls have opened up one of those electric seat switches? but they are loaded with springs and crap and grease and complicated mechanical complexities...

I oped mine up to find that there was a toggle joy stick almost, passing through two rectangular blocks that ran N,S and E,W.
Each of these 'rails' was hinged on an axle, so when flicking the switch, it would angle through one, forcing it to roll on the axle, this then toggled the N,S,E or W switch depending.

The little black spring things would sit inside each rail so when nothing was pressed, the springs would find their own balance point =ing all switches OFF.
Sorry, its very complicated to me and its hard to explain.

    The two N,S,E,W switches

The two actuating switches, (left, N,S springs out, E,W spring in)

    The springs and nobs

So I took it all apart, disconnected as many of the cables as possible as the toggle kept falling and shorting out when I bumped it :|
If you have a look under your seat, you'll see the mess.
One of the cables is actually run into the connection to the motor and I couldn't for the life of me figure out how to remove it.

    Also, found this...
I hope to GOD its old and from the last owner, because my baby is clean...

So after figuring out the switches cannot be removed from the housing!!!(at least I couldn't figure it out)

I decided there must have been a way to get around this problem and still repair my switch.

I went to the shop and bought some candles, plasticine and lighter. (I quit smoking)

I got a little carried away but then straightened myself out and got back on track.

I thought that most peoples switches probably just snapped off, like mine did.
So I drilled a small hole through the middle, after mine had already been done it seems...

And thought I could screw in a new switch, as the old toggle was still there, just no joy stick for me to use.

After making my mold with plasticine and melting some wax, I made a prototype.

The end result was fine, it worked well and it solved my problem.

The main idea here looks like this.

And it works in my case.

I am unsure as to what you guys face with your seats and do not know where to go from here in the way of a better solution.

Any advice, tips, tricks or someones experience would be greatly appreciated.

I hope I haven't waisted your time and maybe even enlightened you into the working of that damn switch.

I'll be back with more ;P

If you still have the switch, my idea was to drill down through the middle top of the switch into the broken stem of the switch and screw in a long grub screw then puttying up the hole on top. Maybe this would be easier?:zlove:
