Just changed careers and increased my income considerably. In the next few months gonna have some $ to drop into a car. Im seriously thinking of selling the zed and importing a above average 2000 spec R s15 for about $28K. Love the zed, and probably the shape is better then the s15, just can't seem to justify spending $10-15K on it and still having a 89 car. What would ya guys do?
Not sure why the year is that important... The Zeds were made in Nissan's heyday, they put a lot into that car that they don't anymore. If you've got a spare $15K to spend on your Zed imagine how awesome it's going to be. The only thing against it will be the age, but so what, it's still superior. I had the same dilemma recently, should I get out of Zeds and buy something new that I could afford ($30K commodore for example). I decided to keep zedding. If I spend a total of $30K on it (but i doubt i will have to), it's going to be perfect for me. You're obviously going to get biased answers asking a question like that here but my answer is simple. Spend some $ on the Zed, you'll love it even more and we need some more nice Zeds around. Come and say hello at the tech day if you go. Cheers, Evan (EvZ)
You answered your own question Stay with the zed. You will be happier in the long run and have a WAY better car (but i'm bias :zlove: ). Cheers Rob
Used to have an S15, now have a Z32. Had an S15 for about 2 years, and now have a Z32. 2 very different cars, brought about by the VERY different power delivery. It seriously feels that you have to hurt the stock SR20DET to have the same feel/thrill from the car (Think I'm quoting JZX here). I'm with Evan, think about what you can get if you put in the same kind of money. The 15 year old issue won't be problem if you have that budget.
Can you import an S15? Seeing as Nissan sold them locally? Forget the issue of the Z bring an '89 car - they will become a classic. Look at the numeber of good 240Z's at the Nationals. Think of early Mustangs, 60's MGB's - so what that they are 30 or 40 years old? If your income has taken a turn for the better, get an S15 for the daily grind and keep the Z for weekend fun, and put the $ into the Z over a number of years instead of all at once.
If you put the money into an S15 you'll get it back when you sell it You won't with the zed. Then again, i dont think thats the mindset you should have when it comes to hobbies/passions/whatever... If it were me, i would go the S15, just because its newer, i think it looks better than the z, and its cheaper to modify, cheaper to run, etc.
Nissan only started selling S15's in November 2000 however they started production in Japan in 1999, therefore 1999 - 2000 models are eligible. In theory it's the same deal with 350Z's as they weren't sold locally for a while even though they were in production, I can't see any body assed to get compliance for 'em though. Ben
I'd probably go the s15. I've seen some fully decked out ones for between $27-35k, but none of the problems associated with a 15+ year old car.
Dude i'm in the same boat as you. zed or a nice 'NEW' s15. Reason why I want a s15 is because it's only a few years old. mmmm new car! nothing to blow up!
Re: If you put the money into an S15 you'll get it back when you sell it Someone buy Rohan some new glasses !!!!!:LOL: Them Coke bottle ones dont work too good ! The S15 is a lot of things, but a classic and better looking than a Z32 aint any of them
To sell or not to sell U should keep the ZED If it were me i would spend most on mods and while the motor is out get a full colour change. U would be amazed what a good respray will do as long as u choose the right colour. The zed will be 1 of the best sports cars out there today and still get people looking and asking what was that :zlove::zlove::zlove::zlove::zlove::zlove::zlove: Thats right love my ZED G
get some deep dish work miester 18x9.5" with rubber on the back for around $2700 landed, coiler overs, new paint, and a few go fast goodies, and you will be laughing. KEEP THE ZED UNLESS YOUR UPGRADING TO A GTR!
Re: If you put the money into an S15 you'll get it back when you sell it I thought i might get a response like that. But seriously, the one thing that was making me pause before buying the Z was looks. I'd say apart from mechanical issues that its the one thing i least like about the Z. Just personal taste, but its never appealed to me as much as the look of an S15.
I think they might be bear googles Graham! Sorry Rohan! What entices one mans meat, shrivles anothers!:LOL::LOL:
