hi, keep flamage to a minimum.

    My Story:

i've had the drifting bug for quite a while, been to archifield raceway a few times in my z31 etc... After deciding to get a new car, i went to join the silvia bandwagon but a deal on a z32 came along that i couldn't pass up. So now i own a aus-spec 300. I'm also on my p plates.

Come to a point whether to either start drfting the 32 or sell up and get a na silvia. Thus the question incurs.

Would a na silvia be a better option for drifting then an aus-spec. I know a fair bit about both cars and drifting but i wanted to hear peoples actual experiences. Just worried if i get the silvia that its power will be very limiting where the zeds weight is its limit

which tracks are you planning on drifting at? I don't think a stock'ish N/A silvia would have enough power to drift waneroo, but maybe a tighter track would be ok. Drift parts for silvia's are dime a dozen, they are lighter, cheaper to repair, easier to work on engine bay things and you won't feel you have to prove anything as there are a majority of silvia drifting. If drift is your thing then go the silvia, but if looks and grip are also wanted you can't look past the Z32

archifield is a tight track but want to get on qr but seen vids of na sr silvias drifting most of it just taking advantage of the straights to get speed. Yer a silvia is the cheaper option but in my mind i only do stuff to achieve something. And in my opinion drifting a silvia proves nothing because the guy infront and behind you is doing the exact same thing, where drifting a 300 is something to be proud of i guess. but in the z31 i always felt i had something to prove, probly be the same in the 32 :(

I know this is about drifting but I think silvia's look shit so Z32 wins. Z32's are also well balanced. I remember when I bought my Z, I had people saying I should buy a Silvia but who cares what other people think do what you want to do and screw everyone else. I know people who are proud Honda owners and they receive a lot of shit from people even here by us Nissan fanboys. If you like your Z then keep it, be different and proud of it.

Just read what I posted and want to point out that my comprehension is retarded and I did not mean that silvia's are honda's, it was an example of people who do what they like. I think I need some sleep.

I think if drifting is your main goal you should go the silvia (or maybe a 180.. I like them better :)). Maybe look at it this way, because you're on your p's and cant get a turbo car either way, use this time to do suspension mods to the silvia (or zed if you keep it) so when you get off your p's, you can do a turbo swap and have some serious fun. You will also be a much better driver/drifter by then.

I think really the only advantage of a zed is its got more power and is "different", but if you want to get good a drifting, I would go with the car that is notoriously good for drifting. Once you go turbo the power difference wont be so important as you dont need crazy power to drift. Even if you do want big numbers sr20's are still great little motors.

    look around on nissansilvia.com

you can pick up a decent track only car there for a few grand.
that way you can have the best of both world, your daily z32(no need to comment here:bow2:)
and your tacky, drift spec 180/s13 ect which has no rego, no interior ect, you can do what ever you want to it, legal or not and you get to drive turbo on the track

if you have the money its a fair compromise.

a silvia is better for drifting....

Weight in a zed can be overcome a little by stripping the hell out of it, ditch the space saver, carpet, trim, remove the sound deadener. An NA 300zx will respond better to mods than a silvia, do intake, headers, exhaust and maybe even a lightweight pulley and you should be able to brake traction with enough revs. If not just get some skinny rear wheels as well! :p

i came from the silvia crowd so i hope i can help.

Silvia's ARE the more popular choise and just seem to be easy to set up for drifting

but im concerned where you say NA silvia. Im not that confident you're going to make the power required for a good drift car in an NA

so if it MUST be NA, id go for the Zed simply coz then you've got a 6 banger with heaps of tourque

but the Zed WILL need suspension mods and a heap of weight loss. At least weight loss work is FREE (removing stuff :D)

either that or if you're THAT into drift, get a Turbo Silvia (my pref) but buy a TRACK ONLY car. Much cheeper to buy and then the licence laws dont apply

of course then you'll need some way to get it to the track though....

If it MUST be street reg, then go the Zed or wait till you can have a Turbo Silvia.

....or fk both and get an AE86....thats never been done :D ;)

The Z is not a car which is easily drifted... The car is made for touring, not really the best platform to throw into a cornor during opposite lock.

It is heavy, and being an NA, I dont think that you will have the power to boot in order to control a 'drift'. But then again, there are some on these forums who drift NAs, but not something I would reccommend.

    Goodluck,
    Adam.

Mate just get a turbo Silvia, no one will even know, leave it stock as a rock... A stock turbo Silvia will have more power than a modded NA Silvia..

would love an ae86 but can't justify the enormous price for what is technically a shitty car, motorsports aside. For the zed was just going to do suspension, strip out interior+sound deadener+ just two light buckets+mod plated two seater, engine would just be intake, extracters+exhaust, remap, light weight pulleys, when the clutch blows button clutch and lightened flywheel, when the head gasket goes would prob deck the heads and cams. Thats all i really want to do engine wise.
