Well.. fked up royal.. Drove it home from work tonight and key wouldnt come out. I wiggled it back and forth lightly for a while and when that didnt work I wiggled and pulled hard.

Key is now out of car.. but through all the shit I did to get it out I can now slide key out even in accessories and start position. Can I fix the barrel somehow or do I need a replacement one.. guessing I will need a key to go with it too :(

Any dramas getting Nissan parts to source barrel and key besides huge price theyll probably charge..?

more than likely to be your key that is fcked. How stripped do the teeth look? Skilled key cutters should be able to peak the teeth again, and let you try it and see if it'll work. If not they'll adjust as necessary.

depending how skilled they are, they'll do the best that they can. My local guy was able to restore my badly worn down key to something that is almost as good as new. See what they can do.

Do you not have a spare???

...speaking of which, yes you should have a spare. At least one key that you never use, keep it locked away in case your others wear down and you need clean ones cut. I have one of the original fixed-up keys from when i first bought my car locked away.

    I had a similar experience.
It was caused by the solenoid attached to the lock assembly.
This solenoid was energised all the time, even with the ignition in the off position.
I removed the two small mounting screws & taped the solenoid on top of the column.
    Problem fixed!
With the solenoid removed the key cannot be removed without depressing the button.

You never get a CAR key cut from an original. All these keys have a key code that a key is cut from.

If you go to a good locksmith he wont use an old worn out key to cut a new one, But will look up the key code and cut a new one.

This guy cuts from Key codes. I have had 2 or 3 cut before.

    He is very experienced.

I was about to mention that, I spent a few $$$ on cheap key cuts that would supposedly guarantee a good cut from my old worn key, but it turned out that the structure of the grooves for this key profile are very fragile, so they couldn't get a good cut out of it. Mind you a key can only be profiled so many times, so don't stuff around with your only key.

I ended up having a mobile specialist come around, look the key code up and do about 6 blanks until he he got the perfect cut for the final genuine nissan keys I had. The key always used to fall out of the ignition because it was missing a groove. Now it stays in there till you hit the button.

    Thanks guys

I got it sorted. Locksmith took two attempts on templates to get perfect cut for nissan blank.
