But whenever I start my Z cold, it starts within half a second, fires up straight away. But after it's warmed up, it takes about 4 times as long cranking the starter motor before it fires up. Any thoughts why this would be?

I have this exact same problem , except mine needs to sit for about an hour before , then I have trouble starting . Cold start is fine .
Check the bolts on your starter motor. This was my issue. I only discovered it once the starter snapped clean off. Don
Fuel delivery problems by the sound of it! Check for leaks or as Greg suggested dodgy fuel damper or regulator, MattB
Coolant Temp Sensor. Check yours. Mine was dirty, would not start when hot. Leave it to cool and presto starts first time. Cleaned them up and never happened again. regards
Didn't serious 1 PTU's also have this issue That is they use to overheat and cook, especially due to placement, lots of people upgraded to a serious 2 and mounted it on the front of the cam gear covers (below the throttle body drivers side) Could be wrong but from memory that issue springs to mind\ Adrian
