if you want a cheaper tyre yet still keep a good traction get a set of bridgestone super cats.

i recently got a set and after been advised on the super cats was pleasantly impressed. old tyres still had plenty of tread left (nankang i think they were) but very poor traction especially in the wet.

being getting used to these and can do a full launch without losing traction in the wet (although it is non turbo!)

    these were 179 each

any cheaper and they would pay you ,the only way of making a diamondback safe is to put it through the shredder and place it underneath the kiddies swings at the local park
id rather put a yellowsea on(which incidently is tektraders tyre of choice,he bought one lol,)

Just to put things into perspective for you. I have Toyo Proxies, they cost me $1,300. The difference being I can drive in the wet and not slide into a tree.

I recently bought some cheaper tyres, being as at the time I was not gainfully employed. I usually run conti or pirelli for a 295/30/18 and a 234/45/18, and am happy to pay the price. I recently put on a set of Hankooks for $330ea on the rear (295/30/18), and it's been raining lately, I've been reasonably impressed, and I'm not without a decent compliment of ponies under the bonnet either. I honestly don't expect them to last more than 15,000Km before they become slippery, and that's what you get with a cheaper tyre.

If you want cheap and decent grip, with bad wear, then go Kumho. Nexen also make an ok tyre at a cheap price, but not in the size I need.
