I think I remember this being discussed ages ago, but couldn't find the specific thread. Over the past few days my speedo has intermittently been dropping in and out. In other words, I'm sitting on 80 but the speedo is reading '0' Then it would kind of surge up and down rapidly for a while and go back to normal. Also the power steering would become harder too, I'm guessing this has something to do with the car thinking I'm doing '0' instead of what I am actually doing, so this makes sense. Today on the way to work though, the speedo was pretty much was out the whole way... :(

I am guessing it's a loose or faulty sensor? The speed sensor is around the gearbox right? Is it easy to access? Thanks, any help is much appreciated ;)

I heard from another member it can be caused by a loose connection under the cluster cover. Take off the piece of trim above the speedo cluster, there should be 3 plugs. Make sure the one on the right is plugged in properly and isn't loose and that might just fix it.

agree with mikey, check your wiring first, and fuses etc...then go to the speed sensor

While you have the cluster off check the solder joints on the back of the speedo. They are also known to cause issues.

I had this exact same problem, i tried everything from the guides on this site, turned out that my speedo was just plain stuffed, if your able to get another cluster to test you may save some time & money.

I have the opposite problem, every now and then the speedo goes up to 200 when sitting happily at 80. Power steering goes funny as well. Ussually only lasts a few seconds and has been doing this for months. Guess I should be looking at the connections then

I had a similiar problem although my speedo completely stopped working one day and the power steering would only work during the first few minutes after start up ... Turned out my speed sensor gear thing had snapped ( metal thing with a red gear on the end) I bought a new one and got it fitted.. fixed th problem straight up.. Havnt had an issue since. Hope that helps ..
