Dead Cyl(No.5)?

I would second this, I've chatted to a couple of tuners recently that have had lots of problems recently withthese twenty year old nissan looms coming in and being absolute pigs to tune because the connectors are getting corroded, there are little breaks in the wire etc. and the voltage drops just cause too much trouble
I'm guessing you have no intention to sell up any time soon and a new loom would probably reduce the headaches you have for another twenty years

Thanks for that info Ian, I have stopped short of setting the whole thing ablaze(deliberately)but who knows what could happen "accidentally"?

I will check those terminals in the morning and work from there. If I can get power at the injector plug end and still no action, I can assume a dead Injector(and set about doing a Plenum Pull, as I have a full set of brand new D'Works 550cc items waiting to be fitted).

Ohm test the injector . Might be worth trying another cas aswell .

Following a much appreciated visit from Graham(EastCoastZ)we have been able to isolate the problem to the No.5 Injector being kaput.
Thanks to Graham and his box of Magic Gizmo's all doubt has been dispelled and I am taking a course of mind-numbing drugs in the lead-up to attacking a Plenum Pull for the first(and hopefully the only)time in my hitherto untroubled existence.
Thanks again Graham, your efforts are "above and beyond".:zlove:

Why does this happen to poor old grey-headed pensioners???:br:

No, it's called Dole Bludger(it won't work no matter how much money I keep throwing at it).:p

    On a slightly different note,
Does anyone have an answer for how to undo the EGR Flange bolts/nuts on the underside of the Upper Plenum, whilst the engine is insitu?

I have just spent one complete day trying to undo 4 bolts(two each side) with the result of getting only one undone?
There is just not enough room to move a ring-spanner(even a Ratchet type).
So, I have a Plenum all unbolted and waiting to be removed(except for these bloody annoying little @##tards).:(
Any helpful suggestions(about achieving success with this)would be gratefully received.

Cut the hardlines. Then do the delete.

3/8 stubby extension and a uni joint has worked for me in the past.
Getting them back in 'in situ' is an even bigger PITA

10mm stubby spanner seems to do the job for me?

Have the water lines been deleted?

Which "Water Lines" are you referring to Rob? The only thing stopping me from undoing these bolts is lack of access for anything even slightly resembling a Hand.
It looks as though I may have to try getting it from underneath the car(with about 3ft of extension rods and a socket).
    Bloody annoying!!

    I use a 10mm racheting ring spanner.
He's talking bout the plenum water lines that enter at the back.

Welcome to the world of 300zx maintenence.
Are you sick of it yet?

The ones under the plenum -with these deleted and the fittings removed from the plenum it's usually pretty straightforward? I'll come give you a hand next weekend if you like?

tassuperkart Its a lie I tell you!

I recall the EGR lines bolts as being pretty painful but nowhere near impossible when we did Rob's (Munted) plenum pull a while back.
No funky tools necessary, just some patience. I think I thought of fitting M6 studs might have made the job of assembling a little easier.

    Ahh Right!
No problem with them, my issues are completely centered on these bloody EGR pipes under the front 1/4 of the Plenum(and to which there is almost no access).
I'm going to get underneath it tomorrow and use three socket extensions to try and attack the three remaining bolts from down there(after all, I only need to raise the Plenum sufficiently high enough to access the Injectors).

    Cheers Mate

    Thanks Rob,
If I don't succeed with an underneath assault on the little buggers tomorrow, I may well take you up on that kind offer.
    Will keep you posted.

Well, after pulling the Upper Plenum, replacing all of the Injectors, Spark Plugs & Coil-packs, I now find that the car that was running on 5 cyls is now not running at all.
The Injectors are "clicking" when tested manually with the CAS, the Fuel Pump is buzzing away like a thing possessed and I am about to pull all the Coils & plugs for one final visual check.
After that I just buy some comfortable Walking Shoes(and a Map).
How an "Everyday User" that has never skipped a beat for years can suddenly go Ape-shit for no good reason, is totally beyond my ability to diagnose/fix.

    HELP!!!!:eek::eek:

And he now has a similar Z to the rest of us.....

I think you may find its going to be a simple (how did I miss that ) thing, like the PTU plug not seated correct or similar.

I hate to state the obvious.......

but did you change the K values for the new injectors ? I seem to remember you used to run oem injectors, so just swapping to 550's will flood your engine.
