so I was driving the other day and I had to brake a bit quicker than I should due to a red light and my car shut off, trying to turn it on doesnt do anything, there's no crank sound and accessories dont even light up, so I decided to jump start it. Everything worked as it should but as soon as I took the jumper cables off the car died.. dead battery or alternator?

Could be dead battery due to bad alternator . Recharge the battery and then get a multimeter onto it when running . If you get 13.5+ volts then the alternator is working .

If its the alternator , I got a spare one kicking around if you want it and can't find another. Just pay for postage and you can have it.

thanks for the offer Nichjay! I'll get back to you, but it's at my Z specialist mechanic at the moment. there was no "click" sound to know if the battery holds charge and it started perfectly fine 15 minutes before that? there was some "squealing" sound aswell when I pressed in the brakes, so my thought is alternator, is there any crude way to test if it works? besides using a voltmeter?

Using the voltmeter is about as crude as it gets.
If you don't have a multimeter perhaps you should consider investing in one.
They come in handy if you have a Z.
