Hi all , I have just taken delivery of my Datascan software and connecting cable (Thanks Caz) . I have been out in the driveway doing some idle / 2000rpm readings to compare against some conzult notes I have .

    Few Questions :
My data screen shows 02 sensor but how do I differentiate between left and right?

The reading I did have on my o2 sensor was 5 or higher which did not seem to be in the milivolt range expected ? .

My injector pulse was a little high at 2k was at 2.2-2.35 , any concern there ? .

    My iacv/aacv reading was at 12 .

Also I have kept some files from today just basically showing idle and 2000rpm runs in driveway just to save some reference data . Was wondering if there are any beneficial data runs to keep which may provide better future reference (ie road runs , high rev in neautral , maintain 4000rpm , etc) .

Ok last one , is file sharing common or a possibility to do comparrisons with other cars that are known to be running well ? Or is it even possible to import/export files for veiwing on Datascan?

Any additional information associated with Datascan would also be appreciated .

found the data selection tables Doh

will plug back into car and take some more readings

    hmmm anyone assist

pretty sure one of my o2 sensors is gone one trends up and down costantly while the other only fluctuates mildly . Not sure which is the good one .

The O2 sensor readings should be swinging from side to side. when you say one's hardly moving, do you mean it's just sitting low and wavering a little bit? if so, the O2's gone...

At operating temp, above 2000rpm, O2's should vary between 10 > 90 rapidly. If only between 30 > 70 or barely moving it's stuffed.

    My guess

is your o2's are gone! and that may be why the injector P/W is a little high, @ idle it should be 1.80-2.50 @2000rpm 1.80-2.20, it fits the situation, replace the 02's and check it again.

    Slight hijack, but similar topic.
Can a r**ted O2 cause irregular idle?, not really erratic, just strange.
Hard to explain but goes in a cycle. Idles fine then slowly degrades a few hundred rpm and gets rougher and rougher and then bang, goes back to sounding fine and process starts over again. Cycle time is approx 30 - 45 seconds.
Datascan shows one O2 is pretty much stuffed.
    ideas?
    TIA

    Many causes to irregular idle

dud O2's are a frequent culprit. Having said that, I have one 02 that is 98% dead and the other 75% dead in my zed for 2+years now, no rough idle, 400+KM per tank of fuel... But don't take that as a reason to ignore yours, my TT motor is a bit of a freak.

Check tech section A-Z index for other causes of erratic ide. Number 1 is dirty electrical terminals on the engine especially injector connectors...

Yeah i've checked out the coil pack connectors and inside them looks pretty much brand new, no corrosion I can see at all.
I'll have a squiz at the techs again but i've already replaced the iaa i think it is called with a tested and working one, next step was going to be check injector connectors then new plugs and O2's (plugs mainly for another problem but probably related, and anyway new plugs can never hurt. Don't know when they were last done either)
Then possibly try different coil packs and also PTU, again mainly for another possibly related problem.
Can PTU's cause an intermittent rough running problem or are they completly worky or no worky?

Thanks again Zed4life, I appreciate your feedback especially since you nailed what my strange unknown switch was for :)

Ok thanks heaps for that .

It appears as if my RH O2 sensor is working fine and fluctuating between 5-95 rapidly once at running temp and the LH O2 sensor is only maxing out at about 25 with only gradual changes up and down . Have checked the connectors and they are all fine so it looks like a new O2 sensor is on the cards .

I had these exact symptoms. I put in a new o2 plug and sweet as.

Exaclty what I like to hear!
I will make those my first fix and see what happens, thankyou :)

Again, I apologise for diverting the thread slightly
