Hey peep-holes! Just a quick email to all those who have done a heater bypass and not replaced the heater core. I just did it and it's not too hard, just a little time consuming. I have a few pics too: Pods and stuff off Stereo fascia out Boot fulla goodies! Stereo gone! Dash out! Reo and pipes! No reo and pipes! Heater box in Heater box gone! Heater box out and pi$$ing coolant! Busted core...note the corrosion I was extremely lucky to have Baz at AZC at arms reach if I stuffed anything, but all in all I don't think I did that badly. Maybe not so confident if I didn't have Baz...okay definitely not so confident! As Baz said to me, the biggest bitch was the aftermarket stuff like the sound system, turbo timer and alarm that got in my way.
and here I thought we were going to have a tech day... shame on you Adam! PS. Why didn't you just use that falcon hose to connect the two coolant lines at the back of the engine? Surely that would've been easier
Well if you and Eric want to do this I can help now...while drinking...and eating...and singing: "I gave my love a chicken, it had no bone...mmmm...chicken"
Braver than Me I have a skyline sized (from UAS) heater core, its slightly bigger than the OEM zed heater core and requires the heater box to be pulled out to make it fit (slight modification to the heater box required) Needless to say once I found out the hard way it didnt fit I got an OEM one from COZ so i dont need to pull the heater box, it just slides in and reattached the hard pipes. Screw pulling out the heater box...
Dude that epic. I remember when i did Amandas. Lets just say i wasnt speaking english for some of the process. However i didnt take the heater box out. F that. Good work. Now put it back together! You're showing us your inner bits. Whoops.
I know what you mean, but in the end I was glad I pulled it out because my doors had stopped working (that control airflow) so I replaced the three door motors...now I have foot, face and window air! (plus butt-air after curry!)
Already back together. It was about 2pm when I finished with the heater box and after much cursing and kicking I got it back together.
Hahaha, reminds me when I did mine. You threw your crap in the boot... I threw mine into a wheelbarrow http://www.aus300zx.com/forum/showthread.php?t=277151 MoulaZX
Nice work. Have done this a few times. When I did my Z I removed all of the ducting, disassembled the heater box, cleaned it all, and replaced all the foam bits. I also gave everything else a good clean under there.
Coz has a note on the heater core saying : For Left Hand Drive Vehicles only, will not work on Right Hand Drive vehicles. Is it possible to order a RHD one from him? Just interested as I need to do mine soon and not looking forward to pulling the whole dash
It does say that You have to reuse the piping, valve etc (everything except the core) However its the core that gets electrolosis and leaks everywhere. There is RHD one available on Zcentre.co.uk but its double the price of the LHD.
did you take out the a.c box? you didn't need to do that!! i took the heater box out of my wreck to get to the heater core, gotta say it's not that difficult as everyone craps on about, time consuming yes difficult no
Nah, didn't take out the ac box. Looked okay to to get the heater box out without doing it so I did! Bit of a jigsaw, but no biggie.
I have been putting this job off for a couple of years. Every time I see one of these threads, it gets put off again. I have the new heater core; I just need a bit of motivation to dive in there. I have noticed that if you drive far enough, radiated heat from the tunnel does warm the cabin up a bit.
