    hey folks,

did a search but couldnt find anything of use,
re-instaling my dash to wire up gauges etc etc, my dash itself isnt lifting and is in good condition,
but would like to repair alot of the broken clips on it before putting it in, what should i use(adhesive wise) i dont think super glue would work, there arent bits missing just splits and cracks through little clips etc that are brittle and i know will just fall apart when i put them back in

any help on a product that would work would be appreciated

super glue will work BUT you have to back it up both sides with some fibreglass. Its very strong afterwards.

    Its not, its easy.

All you do is get a bottle of Cyano Acrylate ( super glue ) from the model shop. ALSO get a bottle of Accerator ( called Kicker by modellers) this makes the Cyano go off really FAST .

Rough up the plastic a bit with sandpaper.

Then you drape a cut bit of glass over the busted bit and push it into shape. Drop a few drips of cyano directly onto the glass and hit it with a spray of kicker.

Goes off Immediately and sticks like Sh!t to a blanket. A couple of layers of this and its will be so strong it will never break again.

Files and sands great after its set. ( a few minutes)

You can buy the fiberglass sheet from the model shop as well.

This is also the best and quickest way to repair glass front bumpers.

Push the bar back into shape, hold it and hit it with the cyano then spray it with the kicker. This bonds all the broken fibres back together.

Sand the back of the glass, then back it up at the rear of the break with layer on layer of glass getting wider and wider over the break. Stuck it with cyano and spray it with kicker.

Then V out the crack ( only shallow) on the front with a triangle file. Then fill it with Plastibond.

File, sand and repaint. Its as strong a resin and glass repair.

If you are really keen you can sand back the Gell coat on the front and glue a few strips of glass on the front as well. Then over fill with Plastibond. Sand and repaint.

You can have most repairs finished in under an hour.

Most of the dash is ABS which luckily is soluable in MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone)

    Why?

Cause, If you put a little MEK in a jar and stuff some chopped up ABS in there It will disolve. and if you out enough in you can make a paste out of it that is a great ABS adhesive.

You can cut a tab of ABS for example and spread some MEK paste on it and actually glue 2 bits of ABS together so strong it will never break and becomes one bit of plastic. A cool way to fix tabs on dash boards. But takes a bit long IMO

Lego is also made from (extra strength) ABS; your kids won't miss a few black bricks :)

mmm that would have been good but woulda taken a while and what i did should be good enough esp when you cant see it. its metal fibreglassed in will do the job well. that bit missing is to hold the bracket for the cluster
