Well guys as i have recently posted i have just found out i have bent valves. and therefore cannot afford to fix it. So selling it is one option im considering.... This post is to see if anyone would be interested in purchasing a damaged vehicle for a project car or spares..

The car is a 1990 Aztec red, manual, 2 seater Twin turbo 300zx. It has done approx 144XXXk's

    Things wrong with it!
    -bent valves
    -valve stem seals
    -cracked front bumper
-scratch on drivers side just infront of rear wheel, and on passngers side of rear bumper
-small hole in plastic trim near shift knob
-small hole in plastic trim near hand brake

Apart from the things listed the car otherwise is in excellent condition. It has leather seats, hks boost gauge, extreme pressure plate and exedy cerematellic clutch, ECU (from the Z shop), exhuast, pod filter and DBA cross drilled and slotted front rotors. Was running at 1bar boost with jets.

    Here are some pictures

At the moment this is just one option i am considering as it will be very hard for me to let her go, hopefully i can come up with something so that i can get her fixed, but for now if anyone is really interested please let me know,

    Cheers... Michael :(

    CrestaJohn NEW 'OEM' PARTS

    Too good to wreck

Escpecially as a car for parts, it is worth about $2K with a blown engine.
To make it a desirable car for someone, I think you need to factor in cost of new engine and fitting + getting the other stuff done to make it back to a nice clean thing.
    eg: Engine $3000-3500
    Labour $1500-2500
    Paint and panel repairs $500-1000

So already the price to repair is up around the $5K mark conservatively.
A 2 seater manual TT in my opinion is worth about $11000.

So that takes the price back down to around $6K but you need to make it worth someones while to get all this done because if they can buy a going concern for $11K, why would they buy one for $6K and then have to spend another $5K on it.

Not trying to sound harsh, just stating the facts.
If it was me wanting to buy for repair, I would expect to buy it for around
    $3-$4K.

Just my opinion and I hope this helps in some way. Some people's opinion may vary.
    Good luck with it.
On the other hand, you could always just buy another engine for it.

    Regards
    John

I bought my car for $4000, and I just had to put a new engine and exhaust on it. Don't sell it mate, it'll be worth your time and money to either rebuild it or find a good quality engine and replace it. I bought my engine through japaneseauto in melbourne and they were a please to deal with and the motor is still going strong:) Can give you some more details on it if you would like. Best of luck mate:zlove:

Just Save up and Fix it!

I know $5K is a lot of money especially if you are young.
But you have a great looking car in good condition. To give it away for $6 - 8K would be sad.

Save up and be patient. You can get it fixed and you will love it when you do!
There will be people on the forum who are willing to help you so you can get it done on the cheap!

    Good luck.

hang onto it mate, you'll regret it later on.

you'll lose a lot more, and as mentioned above, you'll be forfeiting more.

you can spend a $4k+ on it, and hopefully get it up and running, or you can sell it for that price and give someone a very tidy zed.
the worse thing about selling stuff is that you can usually see the products appeal, but the buyer won't, they're looking for problems which can bring the price down.

    KEEP THE ZED!!!!

    Take it slow

    Don't panic, take it easy.

The more you can do yourself, the cheaper. Resign yourself to being without the car for a while.

If you can attempt the 100k service, surely you can rip the engine out and put another one in. The longer you take, the better chance of finding parts (engine) at good prices.

You are also less likely to make mistakes if you take your time. Lots of research beforehand. If you don't know what happens when you take a particular bolt off, you haven't read up properly. It's not fun when you pull something apart and get showered in bits you have no idea of where they came from.

In the meantime, you can also swap the rear wheels around so they end up on the correct side.

haha yes the wheels are fixed, done that ages ago, as you can tell its a photo from august. You guys are right! Ive been thinkin all day how much it be sad for me to not have the car. I cant see myself driving anything else. So i have made the decision to keep it. I have actually started workin on it today, pulled off the timing covers, and crank pulley, and timing belt. I have printed out a picture of what it looked lilke when she was all shmick, as use for inspiration to gettin her back on the road. Will continue workin on it on sunday at work. I have printed out pretty much the whole workshop manual from the tech section, gone through every article on plenum removal, head removal etc etc. Its just puttin it into practice that will be the toughest part....

Im postly likely goin to get the camshafts and timing stuffput on proffesionaly so that an occurance of bending the valves doesnt happen again. Wish me luck! And thanks for the support guys. :D

    Good on ya

I rebuilt an engine out of a 280ZX 6 months ago. It was the most fun I've had with a car in a looong time.

Find a good engine shop nearby and get friendly with the guys. They will respect you for taking on an engine rebuild and will give you good advice. You take your bits and pieces there to be assessed. They should help you rebuild it to make it as good or better as new. Let them do the machining and work that you cannot do yourself, but do your homework and question their suggestions and check their work. You'll find they are used to people that know nothing about what they are doing, and will love you for taking a real interest in their work.

At least that's my experience. I'm known by my first name at the cylinder head guys, the brake guys, the suspension guys, the tyre guys, the Z wrecker, the jag wrecker etc. Sometimes I wish I was one of them, rather than working with stupid computers.

I am almost tempted to get a spare engine (NA for the connie) to pull apart and rebuild just for the fun of it. I love engine work where everything has to be exact, don't mind suspension work, but hate rust repair.

im rebuilding my engine rite now

theres nothing particularly hard about it as long as you can use tools and take your time, the only problem with the z motor is that it is totaly just 2 motors stuck togeather that results in so many parts ,my cordia motor seemed to have about a quater of the parts
