hey guys i just checked out a Z today and it seemed alrite, well according to my friend who's a mechanic, but he said it looked as though it was a cut and join job. A different front and back so he thought it was possible it was in a previous accident or something. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience in this area? I took it for a test drive and it was sooooooooooooo good! I ain;t even gonna consider another car anymore, its either Z or nothing but yeah, the main thing i was worried about was the chassis. So any info would be gladly appreciated.
By the way it was a 1990, TT, 2 seater, manual, with modified exhaust and a few other things for $15,200, was also 3rd hand and he wasnt sure what the previous owner had already done to it, plus hadn't had the 100K service yet.
    Thanks

    Hey Yoshii...

if you go to the Technical Section it has an artical on what to look for to tell if there is any body damage. It might help.

Yoshi, any zed for that sort of money that even

has a hint of being a "cut n'shut" is a walkaway...

I know that I keep telling you bad news mate but it's just that I alongside many others have seen it happen countless times ... newbie gets all excited and buys the first or second zed they see...it turns out to be a lemon and then they post here with a long and painful story of repairs required ...

We are just trying to save you that experience.

The zed is a superb car ... getting the best your money can buy just makes the experience all that much better ...Hang in there !!!

PS: Did you investigate that one in Brisbane K-Zed posted about in your previous post ? It's worth travelling for the right zed !!!!

If you want and you are serious... make some investigations and if you are certain it's a possibility, then ask one of us up here to go check it out for you ... we'd be happy to do so ... then you'll know if it's worth the trip up ... There are a few zed mechanics we could recommend up here to get it checked out profesionally as a backup...

Do your sums ... a few cheap airflights and a couple nites accom is a cheap price to pay if you get the right zed ... IMO...

I suggest you take it to a mechanic...

...and get it up on a hoist to see if it has been cut and joined if you intend on getting it

Thankz for all the help guys!

hahaha yeh i know u keep tellin me bad news but i'd rather know what to look out for rather than a whole lot of 'oh the Zed is the best get ur hands on the first one you see coz its worth it blah blah' type stories, so yeh i appreciate that zed4life.
Yeh i guess i am an excited newbie haha but I wouldnt get one of the first ones i see.
I have had a look at the one up in queensland and i admit that it does seem excellent on paper but, it's too far for me to consider at the moment and by the time i factor in all the costs it is sorta outta my price range. But i'd like to say a big thanks for offering to check it out for me and stuf! THANKS ! Also its a 2+2, not that there is anything wrong with them, but i would prefer a 2seater.
Oh and finally, this forum rocks. The first one ive ever joined and everyone on here looks out for one another n everything! haha its like one big family!
    much love pplz!...until next post!
    SEE YA!!

    Egg ....

    My guess.

The marks under the door where the factory welded em up. :)

    Baroo TIMMAY!

I first saw these marks but

being on each side in exactly the same place on more than one zed i've seen leads me to believe they are standard weld marks from nissan too.

    weld marks

when he was lookin at the car he said he saw some welding which led him to believe it was a cut n join job. i didnt really question him bout it much as i dont have much of an idea bout this stuf so i just took his word for it.

I've seen cut'n join zeds assembled in QLD >>>

    >>> by backyard importer/repairers. The last one was a black 2 seater frontal write-off, in poor general condition. The front cut arrived and was welded in. Many days of grinding & bogging ensued b4 the finished result was wheeled out & sent away for a paint job.

Last seen at Gavin Woods 12 months ago with major engine probs. I wonder where it ended up?

Be very wary ... anything suss, walk away.

Do you mean this weld mark??

Do you mean the weld mark on the door frame that I have highlighted with a green circle?? If so, then that is a factory weld mark and all zeds will have it. Hope this helps.

    Well.....

I thought I had a photo of that section of my car, but it appears I dont. But since I'm camera happy at tech days/cruises I knew I would have one somewhere. And then I found petes..:)
