Hi was at a mates house today and he showed me a little unit used to trick the Inlet Air Temp or in the case of the Z the Coolant Temp Sensor . I measured the resistance of the unit at 4.7k Ohm , which to my way of thinking would simulate extremely cold air temp and increase the fuel delivery ? . It was bought off ebay for about 30 bucks . Has anyone tried these and is there any possible problems associated with tricking the coolant temp , like on a really hot day etc? . Feedback appreciated . Oh he insists that this unit did seem to give him a noticeable power increase on his gen 3 ute . ?
forgive my ignorance, but the unit tricks the ecu into thinking it has colder air than it does? so from what i understand it just makes it run richer? like a poor mans SAFC?
Asking for trouble I'd say, its not just fuel it will affect, its timing too and everything else that supports and protects the engine.. Ping Ping! Tricking one sensor without looking at the other systems it interacts with is just dangerous. Im sure there was discussion on here quite some time ago about a similar sounding 'gadget' that someone had seen on ebay. Caz..
Don't do it ... absolute WOFTAM all you'll do is use heaps more fuel and possibly foul the spark plugs ... ECU will also retard timing and enable safety boost if it 'sees' sub 65-68deg temps... (Which is what this wank of a mod does. Not good for anything
Yeah i was reluctant to beleive him but he is adamant and not considered a liar . I just figured that it must compromise some safety aspects of the car by telling it the extreme wrong air / coolant tempreatures . Might borrow his and fit to my Statesman and see how it goes? he did say he had to reset the ecu after fitting . Hmmm if it sounds too good to be true it usually is . Thanks for the feedback .
