    Hi fellow Zedders,
Just a quick heads up when it comes to your Compulsory Third Party Car Insurance.
I recently found that Shannons is by far the cheapest provider of this service.
My previous insurance company ( CIC ) required double ( $513 ) because the Zed is over 10years old. :mad:What a crock that is.

Well I ventured to Shannons Classic Car Insurance, who I have the car insured with anyway.
They have quoted a very reasonable price of ( $273 ) which is by and far cheaper.
So guys and girls, I urge you to check your CTP before you pay.
Hope this enlightens some of you.

    Cheers
    Kerry:zlove:

    Not in NSW.....

In NSW we have to source our own CTP insurance (called a green slip) from an insurer BEFORE we renew our registration.

When it comes to insurance (of any form), like KEZA said..... it pays to shop around. Insurance companies know that humans are creatures of habit, and rely on the fact that most people just pay the renewal when it arrives.

One year the missus was about to pay a couple of our greenslips when I suddenly noticed the premiums had gone through the roof. I rang the insurer and was informed the increase was due to the claim we made

We've NEVER made a CTP claim in our life

There had been a "glitch in the system", which listed us as having made a claim so our policies had been slugged with some sort of a loading !

It always amazes me how all these "glitches" ALWAYS work in favour of the insurer or bank. You never accidentally get insurance for half price or a reduction in interest on your loan

    Final Price is variable

Based on your information I went rushing off to get a quote from Shannons ...
end result is the price is dependent on youngest drivers age, post code (i.e. suburb, city / country), vehicle type (sedan), vehicle usage (private & business). Hence my quote was not as low as your $273 but rather $404, but I live in Sydney.

If think the key age line is 35 years old.

NOTE: all CTP insurances are not the same, the differentiators being whether the driver at fault is also covered by the policy.

Shannon does cover the driver at fault.
    Payouts are
    $300k quad,
    $150k para
$100k total loss of speech, hearing, sight,
$100k both hands, both feet, one hand & one foot
$50k single loss of hearing, sight.
    $50k one hand, one foot.
$10k death ... pays the least.

Shannons is an agent for GIO.

Paid my CTP with shannons just yesterday for my rego. $464 for a 25-year old driver.

For someone my age they are not that cheap...but then again, nothing is cheap for the younger drivers :(

Called my comprehensive insurer (not shannons) regarding the fact that I am now 25 (the 'magical' cheaper insurance age), and how that would affect my premium. No change apparently. Makes me so cross :bash:

I retract my comment. Steven's link shows that I am actually getting a good price (however their insurers that subscrive to their service seems limited)

Yep, about $400 for a zed......

I think the registration charge is only about $50 (for a sticker & a piece of paper) but the "Motor vehicle tax" BS runs in at about $350

Once you've parted with this money, you then have permission to continually attend the petrol station throwing further buckets of Tax money at the government(s)

Oh, you also need to set aside some money every year to pay for wheel alignments. After it rains, they use NSW potholes for the olympic swimming trials.

    Tell me about it.
I hit one last night(it's been sitting one mtr from the centerline for the past three weeks)couldn't see it in the rain and darkness and it threw me across the centerline(fortunately there was nothing coming the other way). Maybe we need to pay more money, so that it can be fixed?

Using that site, this is what I get(at 67 yrs old, max NCB).

    AAMI $677.15

    CIC-Allianz $672.00

    GIO $373.46
