Correct Engine Temperature

I suspect that my thermostat is opening to early, and allowing my N/A Z to run colder than normal. It is not stuck open as there is no flow past the radiator cap when cold, and there is once warmed up.

I have tried meauring the temperature on the aluminium housing adjacent to the temperature probes for the guage and ECU. I bought a digital multi meter with temperature readout and attached a K type thermocouple to the pipe with some tacky tape (basically high temp blu tack).

Measured result was around 70 degree's a long way below what I expected.

So I would like to compare results... What temp does yours runat?

Has anyone else made a similar measurement or installed an aftermarket temperature guage installed that you consider reliable?

    Thanks.

I monitor my temp using an nProbe which is like a conzult. It displays the temp that the ECU thinks the engine is running at (different to the temp displayed by the gauge). When the air temp is around 20C the car is running at about 80C even when driven with zest.

When i last checked my engine with Conzult, the temperature averaged around 78-79 degrees during 10 minutes of normal driving. This figure was obtained during the height of summer though, so a winter figure is most likely going to be a bit lower. Mine is an NA as well

My one runs at about 80 to 81C (based on Conzult).
