Coolant leak onto DS turbo (revisited)

OK, the last thread on this met an unfortunate end, but I needed to clarify some points:

    1) Although, on the basis of AndyMac's thread, learned members have stated it is "possible" to change the Driver's side coolant hose to turbo with the plenum in place, is it EASIER with the plenum off? Or should I just attempt to tackle it with plenum in situ?

I'd rather just yank the plenum (again) to begin with, rather than fuxor around for 2 days and then remove it anyway.

    2) based on search, I'm 90% sure it is, in fact, the DS turbo that has split, BUT - could it be any other hose? (I recently did a plenum pull, bypassed all the under-plenum hoses, and replaced the passenger turbo hose at the back of the motor - and as soon as I put it back together, remembered abotu the DS one - I knew right away I'd regret it).

    3) props for the pointer about the supercheap 8mm hose. I got the 7.5mm high pressure EFI hose to work elsewhere, but hell if I'm trying it here.

Heater hoses (the ones in the engine bay) are new, BTW.

Do it properly and pull the plenum

if one of the hoses is leaking, the others won't be far off leaking also. The amount of pain, skin damage and frustration of trying to fix those individual hoses with plenum on is just not worth it IMO.

Pull the plenum, do the under-plenum hose bypass and all these problems can be eliminated in one fell swoop.:zlove: . You'll be amazed at how easy and much more work you can do with the plenum off. EGR bypass, under-plenum hoses bypass, replace IACV & PCV hoses etc, tighten all turbo inlet/outlet piping (this is usually good for a couple PSI as the turbo inlet pipe clamp is found to be loose in 99% of the time).

RE: um, yeah, I did a plenum pull 2 months ago. Hence the question.

That's why i'm so dumb, because I forgot one of the driver's side hoses (there's one that you run from the turbo to the back of the motor as part of the bypass, but there's another shorter one as well also on the driver's side? is that right?)

I just want to make doubly sure so I don't have to do a third plenum pull, because then I really would have to commit seppuku.

my mechanic did it without taking the plenum off. cost me $100

$100 to change a hose? Um, thanks but no thanks.

Think it's still more cost effective to DIY, even if I did yank the plenum.

    Again.

    Dammit.
