Hi All Just tore out my dash and am going to replace my clutch booster.. Is there anything specific I need to do before removing it, or does it just come out no worries? Ta
Remove the Clutch Pedal Assembly, and undo the two nuts holding the Clutch M/Cyl in the engine bay, then disconnect all vacuum hoses attached to the Clutch Booster, and pull it out.
Right, well, the New Second Hand clutch booster is in, however, it hisses just like the last one. Took the car for a test run afterwards, the first half of the clutch pedal's swing is soft and squishy, the second half it firms up. I can change gears but it feels a bit clunky. Also, the clutch bites if I move the pedal about half a centimeter off the floor.. The other thing is, the hissing noise stops when I start boosting.. My friend has a theory that maybe the clutch booster isn't leaking air out, it could be sucking air in, which would be why it stops when the car boosts.. The clutch pedal is adjusted out as far as it can be adjusted too.. Any ideas?
I thought the clutch booster, like the brake booster, is a vacuum-operated system, so the hissing noise would be air getting sucked in, not leaking out. Try and trace the leak, seal it and see if it makes a difference.
Just a guess, could it be caused by one of the two Booster tanks leaking? I have heard of a few of them splitting. One is under the guard and one is in the engine bay.
Should have mentioned - The hissing is coming from inside the cabin.. When you block the hose running to the clutch booster in the engine bay, the noise stops. Apparently the car will run fine without it, however, with it on or off, the squishyness in the clutch pedal is the same..
Things I noticed when Driving home.. I noticed that the clutch pedal gets stiffer, pushes my foot out (I drive with my foot on the clutch, taking up the slack) when I get onto boost.. Also noticed I can hear hissing from behind the driver's side fender thing.. Going to have a look behind there when I get the chance
