I have an usual problem in that the fuse on the cigarette lighter blew so I replaced it, now the lighter only works when I switch the main lights off! I am very puzzled! The other problem is the temp gauge goes up to operating temperature then slowly drops to zero then stays there for a approximately 20 seconds, after this it goes back to operating temperature!:confused:

wrong section... should be in technical...

did you check the fuse box for corrosion or shorts?
might be in behind the dash or radio console....

    could be an earth issue..

time to pull things apart and look around.

check the connections on the battery just to be sure...

    weird.

sounds like you have a bad ground to the lighter (or someone has been fat fingering the wiring). When the ignition lights are on i would bet you its getting its ground through one of the bulbs, when you turn the lights on the path is gone. take a volt meter and ohm the ground out and the +out, (dissconnect the battery or you will get bad readings on the ohm part of the meter).

but that said, if its not a bad earth, and you do infact have power to the lighter at all times, you may have a bad connection in the + side.
make sure first off the fuse is infact the right size (5/10/15 etc).

then check the connections to the lighter, pay attention to burnt looking plastic or any other signs of resistance. check the ground tabs and make sure they are ok, often they heat up, corrode or get loose none of which creates a good connection. often a simple removal and refit of a ground tab, can clean it enough.

    hope that helps zeo!

Thanx guys. I was hoping somebody else might have had the same sort of problem with a easy fix. Oh well, time to take the centre console out and start checking for bad earths etc.:(
