Changing NSW rego to SA Rego

I am wondering if anyone has recently gone through this process. I am planning to get my Z32ZX TT from NSW this weekend, and drive it down to Adelaide. Since its just out of rego I will have a unregistered vehicle permit with me. Planning to transfer the rego to my name next week, at the same time change over to SA rego.

Now I have been told by Transport SA that the vehicle will have to go through their ID check up station at Regency Park. As far as they told me it is strictly an ID inspection only and is not a roadworthiness test (I pressumed that they wouldn't be looking to defect). The car has some mods including boost controller and turbo timer(which I have been told by a source are illegal in SA, although they seem to be everywhere!). I have heard from someone that they can actually defect at Regency Park during the ID inspection.

I was wondering if anyone has actually gone through this SA transfer of rego process and can give me the correct info?

    Cheers.

PS-I did previously in 2005 transfer my supra rego from NSW to SA. They never asked for this ID inspection then- all I did was rok up at motor registry with my NSW plates and exchanged it for SA plates after fees and paperwork. Wonder why. Maybe new rules?

Heres the link to the relevant Transport SA section:

Did the supra have rego left..

cause if it did then it wouldn't have needed a check, however casue ur zed isn' registered is prob why they want it checked. secondly arn't turbo timers a safety mechamism so ur dont screw the turbo up, then why would a safety mecjhanism be illegeal, beats me.

registered in another state or unregistered, an ID check will ALWAYS be performed at Regency prior to first time SA rego - regardless.

it is supposed to be "just" an ID check, but people HAVE been defected, depends upon what that specific inspector sees, or is looking for, on that specific day.

Basically if you know you have defectable parts/conditions on the car, you are just trusting to luck that you will get through - once you get "tagged" with the defect - you sure can't argue that the inspector cannot defect you because it was supposed to be "only" an ID check:mad: .

    good luck

    Wish me luck

I think henpecked got it spot on as I was thinking the same. I dont know however, how I got the supra through without an ID inspection or my mate who got his corolla through in jan. He had NSW rego left, just went to motor reg, handed in his plates for SA ones, thats it!

    I did exactly this........

a few years back.......bought my car in NSW......drove back to Adelaide on a temporary permit!......via on overnight stay in Melbourne!!......best test drive I've ever had!!!......couldn't get the smile off my face the whole way home!!! :D :D :zlove: :zlove:

BUT......I only bought an Oz spec NA......not a TT....... back then it was stock!.....& it was 3yrs ago now so things could have changed???....

All I had to do was head out to Regency......the car went through the inspection which actually is basically just a cross check to make sure the chassis number & engine number are legit......sorry I have no idea how they know this??.....but essentially it's to make sure the car hasn't been stolen chopped & re-sold etc etc......so I'm not sure how a car would go with an engine replacement???......but it really was just a quick look under the hood for the numbers!!......so unless your mods are glaring out at them you 'should' be fine???.......but don't quote me on that!! :p

They did it all while I stood there & watched.....took all of 10mins as there were a few cars in line.....handed me the paperwork......went inside.....paid the stamp duty, rego & SA plate fee.......drove away all within 45mins of getting there!!!

Good luck with it!......enjoy the drive! :zlove:
