Passing Thought How sweet would it be to get a car pc, with Telstra wireless high speed net work with great coverage, you could mount a webcam on the dash and broadcast yourself cruising around town..... with out any drop outs..... please note i dont work for telstra, dont use their products at the momment and have no intention of doing so... however the specs of next g are a heaps better than any other wireless provider.
Wait up so this is just a bare system right...all thats included is: - processor - motherboard - case - psu So we need to factor in the following: - hdd - optical drive - gps reciever - wifi - ram Am i right so if you factor the following you can be looking at an additional $400 correct? Which brings it to a total of $800-$1k right??
exactly.. the extras would totally depend on what you wanted, and how much you could get it for.. for me, the hardest part has been finding the case and car PSU.. the rest are just standard parts (some laptop parts) there was a group buy on here a while ago which went no-where, so i've done some digging around myself
ive seen similar units on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/BRAND-NEW-Mini-Car-PC-for-GPS-Music-and-More_W0QQitemZ330047005147QQihZ014QQcategoryZ14946QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem this one here with all the goodies (everything) im sure there can be a big price drop if multiple units are bought. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Holden-VT-VX-Car-PC-7-Screen-GPS-DigTV-RView-Camera_W0QQitemZ190047837087QQihZ009QQcategoryZ34290QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
i am quite interested in this i have a setup up currently in my car with a laptop but the bastard only has usb 1.1 and keeps dropping my usb devices, wich means no more touch screen (how very anoying)
I dunno about going with telstra. they have always seemed so over priced. anyway 3 is upgrading their UMTS(3G) to HSDPA(3.5G) so 3 will have a much faster service. and they are seeming to be the first to do it but as per usual as soon as one does it so will the rest.
Prices are in! ok, on the S2000 forums, we have 2 buyers so far.. so you have a few days to confirm and then i'll put the order through.. prices are in: 2 units - $377/unit (shipping: $75 each) 5 units - $371/unit (shipping: $75 each) 10 units - $364/unit (shipping: $70 each) This is for the VoomPC, Via MII 10000 and M2-ATX... shipping might change a bit depending on your location.. we've done a lot of searching and its the best way to go, most people can source the drive and other bits cheaper themselves and save on the shipping.. try msy.com.au for absolute bargains! i'm also working on a CoPilot 10 group buy, but i'll keep you posted if you're keen.. anyway, let me know!
I've got a couple of questions: 1/ Are these aus or US prices? 2/ Why does the page linked from your first post say the machine is $319 for a single unit and you are quoting $377?
these final prices, i have converted from US to AUD.. this was the original price.. in US form: 1 unit - US $295/unit (express shipping, handling and insurance to Australia: US $70) 2 units - US $290/unit (shipping: $115) 5 units - US $285/unit (shipping: $270 10 units - US $280/unit (shipping: $540)
curious as to what software you would run to operate the gps navigation. I have a few software programs here but they only install themselves on a pocket pc.....any ideas on ones that run on standard windows xp systems?? As this would be one of my biggest reasons of having it. Cheers
We're getting a product called CoPilot. Version 10 comes out soon, and i will be organising a bulk purchase for anyone interested.. http://www.travroute.com.au/index.p...art&page=shop.browse&category_id=33&Itemid=38 it's very good software and comes with aussie maps..
Freedrive with destinator maps from the pocketpc. Available for free. However, you will need a gps mouse. Sorry for hijacking.
Runs on WinXP, but uses the maps from a pocketpc. When I said it was available free, it's available free the same way photoshop, etc is.
