Carbon Canister Removal

HICAS gone, AIV gone, EGR gone, PRVR gone...

Maybe I've gone mad with simplifying, but now I'm tempted with the idea of removing Carbon Canister as well and all associated lines in the front of the Zed, mostly because it will free up a lot of room around the passenger side SMIC, presumably air flow is improved in the region, and also lessen the amount of vacuum lines running around in the Engine Bay.

    See link: http://s95014253.onlinehome.us/63104/6901.html

My question is, what is the latest consensus among everyone here regarding this?

In that link Robo mentions that hes removed it in '04 and has run into zero issues since.

I don't care about difficulty, only about safety and possible emissions problems. But since I'm already running 3" exhaust + 3" 100 CPSI Cats, no EGR... what difference will 'and No Carbon Canister' make on top of that?

    Thoughts?

    Cheers,

Mines been gone for two years I had to fit z1 smic's and they have their own link on their site on with steps on how to do it.

Wasn't hard to do and I'm sure the old fuel hoses were leaking. I think it traps fuel vapours when you switch the engine off which are then reburnt when you restart the engine. On occasion after a long drive I can smell a bit of fuel when I switch her off but less than what you get while filling up and it only lasts seconds. After a short drive, 30mins or less I cant detect any fumes.

Remove the carbon canister and the line that runs to the back like I did .

you can see how mine is left vented in pic .. tested it with pump running and no fuel smell (you'd smell E85 if the were vapours)

Was disconnected at the front before and no fuel vapours with pump fuel either.

you can also relocate/reconnect the carbon canister to inside the lower rear bar if you wanted to .

depends how worried you are about the RTA.

Alrighty, fairly convinced. Carbon Canister is now on the hit list! [TIS]

...What the hell is going to be left in my Engine Bay? :p

alot of people get strong fuel smells around the front of the car on hot days with the cc deleted.

i personally think you should get an r33 cc they are pretty small and wont be in the way of the smic.

Don't do it there's no point. Your fuel system needs to be safely be vented... Easy to relocate if it's in the way or just fit a smaller one.

It's not like you can see it anyway!
