Car starting in gear AT?

Hi my car got failed on RWC because its starting in Drive and gear.
Its a auto 1990 TT 2+0
Would be the inhibitor switch/Neutral safety switch being gone?
We did swap the transmission

 

I would say the switch is stuffed or not connected, because that's what it's there for, to stop the car starting in drive. See if all your wiring is hooked up correctly and if it is it's a dead switch.

 

Now Im trying to work out the process of replacing it, got any tips?

 

You could also check the electrical connector near the HICAS - its where the inhibitor switch wiring runs

 

Sorry no , i know it's somewhere near the reverse switch on top of the box.

 

Check under the drivers side fender and check to see if the starter relay has been bypassed. If it has, then you'll need to revert the bypass back to a stock starter relay.
