Finally i hard wired in my car pc tonight, its not fully done but it works while i drive which is good enough for me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u6mO-G52HJU The middle left and right are my 02s. Do they seem sluggish? keeping in mind i was above 2000rpm for most of the video
why would it be a defect? its a "driving aid" which is what the guages are for. Also it isnt in my field of vision to inhibit anything. I dont see why it would be illegal at all. Pioneers Vehicle Dynamics Processor does a simlar thing and thats 100% legal so why wouldnt this be?
um um maaaaa...that lady swore lol awesome job mate, i remember you talking to me about this at greg's tech day last year...good to see you completed it mate, well done
you can say what you like ,a dvd screen is not supposed to be in operation while the vehicle is moving, doesnt matter what is on it lol ,we all know that,so do the cops But i like it ,looks cool ,well done
not arguing sisi but why is it those luxury cars can have a massive touch screen for all their crap and we can view our gauges???? is it cause they come out of the factory like that???
im not sure on that one erica, ill let someone in the know answer that Just dont have your radar detector and laser jammer anywhere near that car pc lol
hahahah nah i wont It runs off a stand alone 7inch touch screen, it has a VGA input or an RGB, primarily its a computer screen but i guess it would play DVD's if it had a RGB input.
yeah i have a logicgear sl350f gps,, and it plays videos too. i just rip a dvd to mpg format (700mb), onto a sd card,, and the missus watches a movie while i drive.has fm trasmitter so its sound comes through the car sound system too. So bearing that in mind ,, is this ilegal,, its a gps officer Cheers Patrick
yer wel a PS2 is goin into my Z so nerrr :bash: :bash: hahah no way i could compare with that mate awsom job as for the cops they can basicly defect you for anthing thats no standard depends on their attitude towards you.
Man it looks great, is that the whole unit in the console? what did u use for the power supply? have u finished the interior now? Regards Trev
yeah thats the whole unit in the centre console, it runs off a 19volt 6amp laptop dc regulator and inverter for the pc, the screen came with a voltage regulator already. Both of them have cigarette lighter connections so i hard wired a dual ciggy lighter adaptor under the dash behind the head unit that runs off power from the immobiliser (i need to figure out a way to install something that detects when i turn off the car and the turbo timer kicks in which forces the pc to hibernate.....) I would say that the interior is 90% done, missing that tiny bit at the back of the center console plus the glovebox latch is still missing. Then again the work is never done with these cars.
now see thats what the glovebox is for, my slim line ps2. Thats the whole reason why i wanted the pc to fit in the center console. So i would still have room for the PS2 The screen has the 3 red, white, yellow connections for the ps2 just waiting to be used. Power is again the other thing that i have to work out though.....
GPS screens are ok because they are "driving aids", i can use this screen to run my GPS easily as my N95 has video out that can plug into this. The guages work just like any other guages, except cooler . So they should still count as driving aids and therefore not illegal. Besides theres a switch that instantly kills the power to both the screen and pc, no way to prove it was on.....
Car PC in Centre Console Hey there the-Cypha, I like your solution to the car PC theme - mount a small PC in the centre console. Well done, nice fit too. What are the details of the PC, is it a mini-ATX? Cheers.
no its not ATX at all, which made powering it a pain in the ass. If i were to do it again i would opt for a nano ITX solution but in the same spot, even smaller than what i have now. Its a small form pentium 3, 1.3ghz i think. only 128meg but that can be upgraded and a 40gig HDD. It goes alright for what it is and it only cost me $100. Originally i think it was used in a pokie machine..... Ive been wanting to do this for a long time but you have to research it to know what your doing. I thought that the centre console was the best spot for it as it is large enough for a pc but small enough so that your not going to miss the space. Besides the glove box is set to be the spot for a slim line ps2. Thanks for your comment
