I was having some exhaust work done on my new z today. I dropped it off this morning and worried all day that someone else had my pride and joy.

When i picked it up there was no extra k's on the clock and it was on the host so i felt good. THEN

It came down and i noticed the front bar!.. it had two areas of paint damage and a big crack on one side near the intercooler fin area.

I asked what the hell happened, and was told it was 2 low to go up on the hoist! We looked and there was red paint all over the host ramp!

I nearly flipped out but controlled myself. I paid for my exhaust and left 2 go back to work but i'm putting together a letter now, cos i'm not putting up with this!..

I went in for an exhaust fix, damage to the vehicle wasn't part of the quote..

Does anyone know if the front lip is an extension or part of the complete font bar? That is the area that has sustained all the damage so if i can just replace that lip it would be easier..

    pretty angry!

The lip is part of the front bar.

    Bummer

They will no doubt have insurance. Try and get it perfect cos of the inconvenience. At least youll get it resolved. When I took my immaculat Zed to get intrusion bars, I didnt notice until a week later that they put a pin dent on the inside of the door skin. When its clean and polished the change in reflections off the paint make it stick out like dogs balls. I knew there was no point in going back, they would deny it. It was in Mt Hawthorn if thats a clue to who did it.

    Cheers

i never have any luck with workshops.. thats why the only shop my car goes in is my garage.. and i'll take it up to one of my mates workshops to use his hoist, but hes really careful with others cars

You have every right to get them to fix it. Consumer Affairs can help you out if the workshop doesn't play ball.

What happens if they say it was already damaged?

Lets say even you had b4 and after pics, how can anyone prove when the b4 pic was taken? And if there's a shop of say 3-5 workers, and they all say it was already like that, what can one do?

I'd first ask them to pay for damages, and if they refuse I'd be making a civil claim against them, but if they deny it I don't like your chances.

Is very good for this kind of dispute resolution, I've used them before.

There's a website somewhere (google it and I'm sure it will show up) where you can fill out all the paper work online.

Whenever I take my car in for anything. I take photos of the car b4 hand. I point out the condition of the car to the garage, and I warn them of the ground clearance.

Last time, I even Stuck a note the the steering wheel about the ground clearance and larger overhang of the veilside front bar.

oh yeah, and a reminder stuck on the speedo to lock the bloody car and not just leave it open in their carpark.

Call me paranoid, but you really have to think for people sometimes.

    Which reminds me of ....

the last time I had two new tyres put on the front.

Workshop couldn't find the keys because they had been left in the ignition with the car parked out on the front footpath...

The workshop should have insurance for such damage, by the way.

    Same thing for me today.

My 89 zed's been on a couple of hoists in workshops this week and I just noticed a rip in the passenger side of the bar and lots of cracked paint. It wasn't perfect before but this is too much. I bet it wouldn't happen if it was their own car.

Probably should claim it on insurance and cop the excess. If I do can someone recommend a newer model bar less prone to scraping that would go well with a stock rear 1989 spoiler?

    Update

I gave the workshop a call and today dropped it in for them to inspect.

They had a good look and agreed for me to go get quotes on the fix. If it can be repaired to a strong and completely unnoticeable condition then i'll accept that.. If not then its new front bar.

The car has only recently been re-sprayed and is kept in exceptionally clean condition...so its killing me having this damage right at the front of the car. They have been pretty good about it so far, I'll just get the quotes together tmr at lunch and send them in. I'm going to have the quotes written out to the business address and name.

My car only ever sees a workshop for wheel alignments and welding work. I never give my cars to workshops for this very reason .. just my luck it had happen!
