a mate of mine brings in mustangs ,he pulls the motor out and puts it in the boot then brings it in for parts ,,then fixes it all up then complies it
you can import it if u have a salvage license, chop it in half. or have a cams level 2 license. buying one with a dead engine isnt the way 2 go.. zeds sell for nothign these days anyways. look at miksta hes selling his shell for 1200 bucks
doubt it Because the import approvals are different, so when you go to rego it (assuming its on the SEVS list and there is qualified a RAWS to sign off on compliance) then it would be flagged, maybe he is using the imported car and changing the VIN to one that was landed by the manufacturer/distributor (aka rebirthing) import rules are quite tight and they dont miss many tricks. When I imported my zed, I had boxes in the boot with some personal effects, plates, cuttlery, cloths etc and they got all shitty about it cause I didnt declare it and fill out the paper work..
I'm assuming your talking old school stangs. Rules are wildly different for cars 30 years and over. They don't need compliance and you don't pay duty, so the checks are far less stringent.
pre 1989 There is no list as such, Im not sure what you have to do to show the vehicle is of a similar safety standard of australian cars. Some reading: PDF Dont see the purpose of pulling the engine out in order to get import approval; - Buy card abroad - Arrange for Australian Import Approval - Arrange Shipping and get insurance for damage on the boat - Clear foreign customs/quarantine - SHIP THE DAMN THING - Pay duties/quarantine cleaning fees etc - Complaince car if necessary, might want to check whats involved first in order to see if the importation makes sense, obviously varies model to model - Get roadworthy (might not need it for conditional rego's) - Take car and the mountain of paperwork to Rego Office, pay a massive amount of cash and hopefully get it on the road - beg some insurance company to cover you whilst on the road.
didn't think it was possible, yes z's here can cost next to nothing with a blown motor, however late model Z's (97) never, if only once in a light year, show up as a rolling shell.
The two Lists you need are.... From the SEVS list: 013/00 MA Nissan 300ZX 2 Seat Z32 1989 - 1998 012/00 MA Nissan 300ZX 4 Seat GZ32 10/1996 - Current RAWS List RAWS LIST However there seems to be consensus that nothing after 1997 in the Z32 is possible due to the air bag issue, SEVS says otherwise for the 2+2. Might be worth a call to one of the RAWS and ask them as they should know. Blipman will be along shortly to sort us out...
SEVS is a list that is based on whether a vehicle complies with the criteria such as whether the vehicle in any shape/trim was sold in Australia during the build date and in what numbers. RAWS is a different set of criteria which certifies a workshop to comply the cars. Not all cars in the SEVS list can be complied under RAWS. It's a bit fkd up.
I would say yes.You will have to get it complied and you would have to import it in a 20ft container. if its roll on , then people will notice. Bring it in a container, fix the engine and then take it to a compliance center. Make sure they didn't use a forklift or you will have trouble. a RAWs car must be accident free with no history Trevor
