I'm coming down to Tasmania in the Xmas/New Year period, for a holiday & was wondering if any Tassie members could tell me of some good roads to enjoy driving the Zed on. Arriving in Devonport & then planning on travelling to Launceston for a couple of days, then up through Scottsdale & down the East Coast to Bicheno for a few more days, then on to Hobart & up to Strahan, finally ending up at Burnie & back to Devonport. All up, about 2 & a bit weeks. So any info about some good driving roads would be appreciated greatly. Cheers Kerry :zlove:
scottsale down through the east coast is good fun with decents roads, just get a decent map and draw out some back roads to play on, devonport to launie is way more fun if you take the exter highway and go that way, might come for a spin if ya gimme a yell coupla days b4 u show up
i went from launc to dev using the freeway which seemed boring even though i had cruise set on 130.. if you goto launceston i gotta reccomend the black pepper hotel (i think thats what it was called) stayed on the top floor and loved it.. just dont sleep in the bed at room 3009 also while your there go check out where the river meets into the bay, really nice valley there with some white water rocks and awsome walk ways with a chair lift too.. just awsome. but devonport was boring as bat shit.. OH.. goto the chocolate house 5km out of devonport they give you free chocolate, and for $3.50 you get the biggest galati i've EVER had in my life.. yum.
trues, thus using the old back high way (exter) u get to play on back roads which are a lot more fun very very true,
Im not from Tas, but I can tell you were some awesome roads are Keza. Make sure when on the east coast to divert off the highway through St Marys to do Elephants Pass! Hellyer Gorge on the West Coast is awesome too. I went to the Targa Tasmania website and downloaded their stage maps and used them as a guide. There wasn't much I missed out on.
Also if you are driving from Launceston to Hobart you should have a bit of fun doing that, provided there are no speed cameras Take a trip down to huonville- the road on the way down is a bit of a highway but still has some nice turns and is pretty fun to drive. Should give u a good opportunity to unleash the zed Maybe we could organise a cruise with some good roads like when FranZ was down!
The back way past My Wellington if possible - thats heaps more fun. It was this road that I found that a stock Commodore can keep up with a Pulsar GTI-R, a modified 3 series and a R32 GTR
Thanks But I already have somewhere to stay in Launceston. Sounds as if your a bit of a Chocoholic. But definately going to take in a few of the walks etc. Thanks Kerry
Thanks Franz I might need someone to run interference. You up for it. You come highly reccomended by those that followed you on the Snowy Cruise. Why weren't you in front of me then. Cheers mate Kerry
Will your Zed be ready though Martin?!?!? There are so many great roads down here Keza, you'll have no problems finding them. Just stay off the main highways, & the twisty roads will find you I'm sure we could get a few Zeds together, & go for a cruise while you're in Hobart, just let us know. Jono
Thanks Jono I'll let you know a little closer to the date. At this stage I will be arriving in Devonport on the 21st Dec & from there, just taking my time touring around Tassie. It would be great to catch up with some of the Tassie Zed crew, so again, I'll let you all know closer to my departure from the Mainland. Cheers Kerry
If you take the old road from Strahan to Burnie it would be an awsome drive in a zed. I always had a rental going through there and it was fun even in a holden.
Shouldn't need interference - if you break the speed limit by alot let alot often you're a much better man than me! Saying that, I was driving a stock boat, umm, I mean Commodore! haha oh.... and still average 85kph on those roads
Definately do what Franz said! Get the maps of the Targa from the website, these are by far some of the best roads anywhere Kerry, enjoy mate! Memorable stretches, The Nook and Sheffield stages (nth and sth of Sheffield), Elephants and St marys pass ( on the east coast), the stages down near Cygnet (near hobart), Mt Arrowsmith, and the West coast roads and as Franz said the Hllyer gorge, dam just about all of it. Mattb
yea south of shefrock is crazy, i remember one bit there going back and forth about 4 times up a hill with 180 degree turns at every corner
