I'm using Evans coolant. If you go down this path be aware that you can't mix water or conventional coolants in without doing a complete flush and change.
Yeah I know, is there a pre-flush fluid that gets rid of water? Then put in the coolant? How do you find it?
too expensive for me - group buy? Time for a group buy ??? this is the price guide http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?LH_PrefLoc=2&_nkw=evans+waterless+coolant Cam, l had a look here http://www.evanscoolants.com/evans_waterless_engine_coolants.html Yes there is PS: you'll like this, the product you would use is called Classic180° (and Classic Prep)
Cam Classic Car Radiator Super Waterless Coolant (5 Litre Pack) in Sydney http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Classic-Car-Radiator-Super-Waterless-Coolant-5-Litre-Pack-/181101559911?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a2a7e8067
It does what it's supposed to do -runs about 5* warmer than water/glycol based coolant but as you said doesn't pressurise at operating temperatures, and in theory should eliminate hot spots. So for example running standard coolant you might see operating temps 82* at the CTS but I'd guarantee temps in the turbo waterlines (for example) would be higher. My car runs at about 86* standard operating temps and up to about 96* flogging it. In theory those temps (taken from CTS) should be the same in any of the coolant lines. Downside as I said is you can't just top it up with standard water and even if you were to drop and capture you'd want to be wary of contamination. So any service items that would be easier with the radiator removed become something of a PITA...
It's got goods and bads.... Well both options do... So I guess it depends which goods and bads suit you lol
Another plus is it's combustible so won't hydro lock your engine if it gets into combustion chambers. There are some pics of JPs car shooting flames after ingesting (Evans) coolant during dramas at superlap...
There is but the engine is separate to the radiator... You should be able to find the radiator drain very easily, or at worst drain it via the lower radiator hose outlet. If these sound daunting then you should consider enlisting the help of a local member.... I don't have pics that I can show you, and can't get any as I'm not running a standard radiator.
