My brakes are shagged so Im about to put in new pads/rotors/fluid etc. Looking at getting EBC slotted and dippled rotors and EBC redstuff pads but before I lay down the cash I was wondering peoples opinions on this setup. Im basically getting slotted and dimpled rotors purely for looks haha but if anyone has any objections to these Im all ears (stupid expression I know ). Also any opinion on the redstuff pads, the supplier I spoke to said Id be better off using them over yellow or green as the yellows arent too flash when cold and the greens he was using had a habit of glazing the rotors on the guys car if they werent used aggresively regularly. Driving style: moderate highway driving (trundling to work) and aggressive mountain driving (no cops patrolling the mountains where I live hehe!)
just regarding the discs i have heard some bad things. Please don't take my word for it (i didn't witness it) but a friend who races BMW E30's was using these on the track and they cracked on him mid race. He recomended the RDA slotted rotors as thats what he uses for track use and they seem pretty good for me. But it seems that the ones you are looking at are used on a big brake kit that is sold on this site and no one has had an issue.
I wouldnt use the red stuff pads for that sort of driving. I used them for the last track day I went to and were fine when they were hot, but on the trip there and back are really not want you'd want. They need to be quite warm to work well. I think you'd be happier with green IMO.
Gazza, Blacks(Kevlar Street) are for average road cars. Greens are for Sports Touring type vehicles. Reds are definitely for very high speed use, as are Yellows. I used Greenstuff pads for several years without any dramas, but now use UAS Kelvars which were put in when I changed to the 324mm disc upgrade.
Brakes upgrade? Brake upgrades, I have heard that the RDA disk rotors are pritty good with the greenstuff/redstuff breaks but the redstuff breaks are great for heavy breaking but they do have to stay warm/hot and the greenstuff are pritty effective for standard or slightly modded Zeds, but If you have over 400hp The red pads will be much better. I heard from a break specialist. Cheers Zedipated
Brakes (breaks?) are not in any way affected by how much horsepower your car may or may not have. Braking is affected by what speed you are trying to reduce from, and by the weight of your vehicle. This is mostly about the heat generated by applying the brakes, and is affected by those factors. More heat = more brake fade = less braking efficiency = longer stopping distances. The higher up the performance brake-pad scale you go, the higher the necessary brake temperature required for them to work effectively(and the worse they work at lower temperatures).
Thanks guys, Ive ordered a pair of ebc slotted and dimpled rotors and some greenstuff pads, but after Id done that, an ebc rep emailed me and recommended the redstuff pads... anyway I emailed back some more facts and I'll see what he has to say but I dont think I can really go too wrong with either pad at the moment. My only worry is effective braking, and Ive experienced both ends of the stick now with crappy wooden brakes on OEM pads and full on high speed brake fade on ebc blacks.
Well Im not poor, but Im also saving for a house so I dont want to get too nuts (though Id love to!), and since I dont live anywhere near a track I cant warrent getting full on race spec stuff either (God I envy you guys that get to do track days!)
brembo rotors is not what cost the most... Its the calipers that do... I say go with the RDA... I use RDA slotted rotors up front and std rotors on the back alll stock spec... I only run stock rims hehe and i am using lucas pads... but i dont drive around like crazy in my car hehe i will give it some stick at times but not all the time... I rather use a rotor that is good and not just a name... *cough DBA cough* It was slotted and cross drilled rotors that crack under heat... slotted and dimpled dont...
Ive used the Redstuff on the track and they were useless, they are better suited to lighter cars like WRX's. They wear very quickly on the track and are hopeless for the street when cold. I use the Yellows which are livable for limited road use and fantastic on the track. IMO - Green for spirtited street use. - Yellow's for track use.
