Brake Light issues.

I have a current problem with the Brake Lights staying on(unless I remove the fuse). This seems to be associated with the discovery of a small plastic "button-shaped" item(10mm dia.)found in the footwell area. So far, I have had zero success with accessing/inspecting the Brake Light Switch actuating pad(due to lack of space, Cockpit) and (increased girth, me).

I am looking forward to some Words of Wisdom from G.Brezzo and other similarly constructed examples of Classic Greek Stature(stripping most of the dash plastics has NOT improved access to the area of concern).
I am reluctantly beginning to detest these cars.:(:(:bash:

    HELP!!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

    Hi Chrispy,
Are you referring to the plastic pad/button(on the pedal)that the Switch rests against when not actuated?

I suspect that is the small plastic item I found in the footwell.:(

    Thanks for the input.

Had this happen a couple of times

I think this is what you are looking for

the original is a darker green plastic material

I think the tech section says you can use a washer and bolt but when I tried it the brake jammed on, might have been the wrong size...

Nissan sell them for about $5

you will need to set aside a good $50 for a chiropractor visit after its fitted :D

You have my compassion - It's tight in there for anyone, even if you remove the entire dash itself - it still requires the effort of a professional contortionist regardless!

Maybe you can get or borrow a "young un" to put a brake switch button back in there for you since its fairly simple for them. (it's what I have to do sometimes) :)

    Good luck!

It's actually not as daunting as they are saying.
I had it recently. I paid 7-8 bucks each from Nissan had to buy a pack of 10 I think.

Open ender 14mm spanner and a torch is the tools required.
If you don't have a Nissan near by to purchase them just use a m6 bolt and but for the time being. (Make the hey bolt side face the brake light switch)

As Chrispy and Co have all stated, it's the little green thing also known at Nissan as " The Green Lolly " priced at approx $11 each, you will need 2 as once one has gone the other will be about 3-6 months behind it.

At best a bit of a biatch of a job , if your older and rounder, piece of cake if your young and skinny .

By the time I have beaten her into submission, she will be too sore to be able to contort sufficiently to access this item.:bash::rofl:

    You're all soft.
I made my own button out of a scrap of conveyor belt rubber and a stanley knife. Still holding up well 4 years later.
Just use anything you have laying about that you can carve to suit and you'll be fine (unless you're chasing points at the next Concours d'Elegance). It just has to hold the plunger switch closed when the pedal is idle.

    Hi Chili
Give me a call when you get the part and I will install it for you.
Not hard when you are girth and height challenged like me.

This is exactly what I am currently doing at the moment Mitch.
Did you glue it in place, or did you use another method?:zlove:

Put a bevel on the hole part so it compresses and locks in.

You must have quite a lot of spare time at your disposal(although the prospect of paying $80+ to obtain just one of these items from Nissan, might make Carvers of all of us).:(:br:
    THANKS MATE!:zlove:

    OK!
I took your valuable advice Mitch.
After removing the Drivers seat I was able to lay under the dash(and using my slightly less than skillful Braille skills)I was able to insert a hand-carved rubber stopper into the Clutch Pedal Arm. Unfortunately, I exhausted all of my considerable knowledge of Foul Language during this exercise(and I am now considering learning a third language, so as to gain access to an alternate supply of "naughty" words).

Oh! I almost forgot, THE BLOODY BRAKE LIGHTS NOW WORK AS INTENDED!

    Thanks for the HINT!:zlove::rofl::br:

Good to hear it worked. If you ever need to know some new swear words, be sure to get in touch. Between owning a land rover and a 300zx, I know them all!

My solution was not as elegant as some would like, but it's befitting of a 25 year old car [TIS].

If you want to remove the button entirely, a micro switch and a lever arm would work just the same... but if it ain't broke, no need to fix it, amiright?!
    Could use one of these:
Attach switch wires to the normally open terminals, and bend / extend the switch trigger as needed.

This will help considerably in your quest for new profanities to use whilst working on the Zed.
