If anybody is interested, here are a couple of photos from my recent brake caliper painting efforts ... The obligatory 'Before' shot (after some initial cleaning) After applying the base coat After applying the colour coat and detailing the badging With the wheel refitted Now I just need to get a nice set of wheels fitted, which should improve things a little
Looks great! ^^ Some say to use caliper paint, but I did mine in regular spray paint and it looks the same as the day I did it.
I used Dupli-Color Metalcast spray cans that I picked up from SuperCheap. It is a two-part paint job - a chrome undercoat, which provides the metallic look, followed by a more transparent colour coat (you definitely need the undercoat with this stuff ... I found that out the hard way). It's not specifically labelled as 'caliper paint', however it is heat resistant. For the badging, I just used a small pot of regular metallic silver paint - I figured the heat resistant paint underneath would provide some degree of insulation so as not to affect it too much.
Looks really good mate. You should really use caliper specific paint (such as VHT caliper paint) to stop the excessive heat causing the paint to flake off prematurely
They look great - pleased to see someone else who likes blue calipers. Here's mine from a few years ago, just a few layers of VHT caliper paint, silver paint on the NISSAN. Letters look a bit rough in the pics, but cleaned up later.
