    groonsnout boost = horn

My 300 started loosing power, so this is my story (to date!)

Well the super champ peter (Oz-300) lent me his boost leak tester this weekend and in someways I wish he haddnt.. mainly because now I've got my work cut out for me!

The boost leak tester all ready to go

So firstly the car wouldn't hold much about 1psi. It was pissing out air just near the passenger side throttle body. I quickly located a small vacuum hose below the throttle that had come off, replaced it and crossed my fingers!

Small vacuum hose, passenger size throttle body

Fired up the compressor again and the pressure built up to around 2psi and then stopped. Getting a little worried I heard a sssssss coming out of the drivers side of the engine. I spent quite a bit of time trying to locate the hole, and ended up using a length of tube shoved in my ear as kind of a stethoscope. It worked and I found ANOTHER vacuum hose missing. This one had torn off though so I cut a new length of some high pressure hose I had laying around and plugged it up.

ends up on this small do-hickey.. probably some egr bull we don't need.

Fired up the compressor again and it reached about 2.5psi. This time the passenger side started making a strong hissing noise towards the back of the engine, near the battery.

To tell a quick story, the previous owner hadn't replaced a broken plastic windscreen louvre (passenger side) and this had made water run right onto the battery. Eventually making it leak and make a general mess. I saw some vacuum hosed wedged between the battery and the wheel arch and decided to pull out the battery to get a better look...

    bad idea #2

IF THAT PLASTIC LOURVE BREAKS, REPLACE IT!

The damage is mostly surface damage (paint missing etc..) but it's still no good.

Anything down near the turbo I should be stressing about?

Under the battery a vacuum hose had been wedged (probably by the NRMA guy who replaced the battery) and it had copped about 12 months of battery acid leaking onto it. This has killed the hose pretty quickly.

    <sigh:mad:

SO now my mission is to ask all the guru's out there (you know who you are) where this hose goes? How do I get to it and replace it?

There are 3 hoses that go through this hole into the fender/wing if that helps at all.

Any help is greatly appreciated...

    Cheers,
    Michael

You can actually pull all that crap out of there. You need a short loop hose on the Plenum ot replace it.

Its shows you how in the tech section.

    Please tell me it's true!

What article? I had a good look around and couldn't find anything. But I probably don't know what I'm looking for....

Yeah, that goes to the P.R.V.R vacuum tank

    or Booster tank what ever.

Its not needed I have had mine off the car for years.

    Just another source of leaks

    egghau SHIFT_what again?

You need to look at AIV removal - will help.

The little solenoid with the vacumme lines to it near the battery I think you will find is for fuel pressure adjustment. 40+ psi at idle for starting or when cold. Drops to about 25 at other times.

I would be concerned about your power cable

The power cable, for your amp presumably, is getting burnt through, if this earths prior to the fuse you will have a fire on your hands. I strongly suggest you re-route this wire, I put mine down the fender into the door jamb and through by the passengers foot. Maybe its just my imagination....
