Driving along the raod to day in the freezing cold and the car just went dead, got towed home and was pointed in the direction of the Big Blue fusible link for the battery. Pulled it out and there is a definite break in the wire, and no current getting through. So questions, Can I just pick one of these up from an auto elec. Is there a quick fix so I can drive to an auto elec or nissan? This may sound stupid but if this has blown due to a short somewhere I dont want to wreck my electrics. And the third question is, has this wire broken due to age or does it act like a fuse, the insualtion around the wire is fine it just has a very distinct broken point whereas the rest of the wire is stiff.

** Important not to use some wire

to dodgy up a temp connEction. It has blown for a reason and should only be replaced with an exact same fusible link.

Hopefully just age. It the new one blows also, you has a major short somewhere. Any electrical related work done on the car recently?

Nissan has em or your local wreckers (any similar age import- Skirtline etc have the same one)

Got onto Nissan $30.00 for part not bad, pick it up tomorrow, called heaps of wreckers, no go. Havent has any electrical work done for a while, the fusible link had definitely broken by melting, over time I'm not sure. I did sort something out that may have caused a short, but I'll have to see what happens when I put the new one in.

my auto elec just made one up for me. Did it free of charge too...
If this is a problem, should i be looing at getting a replacement link if mine is bodged up?
The last one blew from the battery being installed the wrong way around

Its mainly to do with the need for a battery with offset terminals. The guy at the local battery place was a bit dim and assured me it was the battery i needed. This was while the car was stranded on the side of the road with electrical issues and me trying to get it working before it got towed away.
Needless to say i got it all fixed :zlove:

I tried getting a 2nd hand one from wreckers, most tried charging more than OEM  . Ended up finding a few 2nd hand ones nice and cheap.
