Just curious as to whether anyone knows of any common faults with either of these two items, or the electrical circuit they run on? I still have to isolate whether or not either of the units are faulty, but I'm curious nonetheless. The thermo fan seems to have simply stopped working, causing my Z to overheat when I have the aircon turned on while the car is idling. A search on this forum returns quite a few results, so I'm going to sift through them, but it seems a lot of people have had their thermo fans not working for quite some time. Am I right in assuming that the aircon causing the car to overheat would be due to the thermo not working properly? The blower motor intermittently blows the fuse. Sometimes I can have the heater/aircon on for hours and nothing happens, other times it's on for 5 minutes then stops working and I find a blown fuse. I'm assuming this problem is merely dodgy wiring, and I'm going to get the circuit diagrams for the Z and start poking around with a multimeter, but knowing whether or not there's a common fault with these items could save me some time. :zlove:
Check for the fan relay missing in the relay box... PS: the wiring to the aux fan is a simple circuit which is prob quicker to run fresh wiring than locate the old fault. You can check if thermo fan works by disconnecting coolant temp sensor and starting engine... Ive done lots of work in this area ... let me know if you want any help... FSM wiring details here Not really, you sound like you may also have a cooling system prob if thats happening. Thermo fan on an NA only comes on around 104[sup]0[/sup] which is usually a sign of probs unless you are in stop start traffic in mid summer
Also check the 2 pin temp sensor connector at the front of th engine. If this is corroded the fan will not come on. Give it a wiggle and see if the fan activates. If so probably corroded! Cheers
Thanks Mark > I'll look into it and see how I go - I don't believe my cooling system should have any problems as I've just had the top end rebuilt around 10,000km's ago, so I'm thinking any problems in that area would have been picked up then. Knowing my luck and murphy's law though.. who knows. I'll see what I come up with, and may be in touch for some pointers. Thanks again for your help. :zlove:
in this type of melb weather..... your thermo fan should not be coming on at all at idle with the aircon on. I would say you have other issues causing your car to overheat. As for the blower, I'm not sure about that one. Cheers
dont worry about not have ing a working themo fan My zed never did have one in 3 years of running. shadow
my thermo fan seized awhile back >> found out that the brake light and the thermo fan run on a master fuse located on the drivers side if that helps in anyway..
True ... to a point... A properly working cooling sys will not need the thermo fan except in extreme conditions. Although if it were really unneccessary, Nissan would have left it out altogether...
